Mario Joins the Crashfest... Not Haberfeld, not Dominguez

Stop the presses!! Kenny Brack has crashed at Indy in turn 1 and taken out Mario Andretti. Mario appeared to hit a wheel or transmission from Brack's car, flipped upside down, got as high as Jim Crawford did years ago (to the top of the fence), did three back-flips in mid-air and landed on all 4-wheels. Had it not been for the HANS Device he may not be with us anymore. Both cars were severely damaged but the drivers walked away to the abulance, though severely shaken. Stay tuned to AR1 for the latest....

I may have to update my crashes/injuries prediction for the month of May. If there are any drivers left.

Yeah, I'm listening to the news here in Indy. A TV station got the video and will be showing it later.

Jay should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid

Considering the safety record of the crapwagons he's lucky to be seemingly uninjured! I think that may be a first for a crash in one of these things. I wish he'd stop driving these cars, as the crapwagon website is almost making it out that he's a member of the Injured Racing League. But, Indy's Indy and Mario is a racer that never quits (unlike his son). He's had a lot of luck to not have been seriously injured or killed and his career and it looks like he got a bit more of that today.

Just looking at the replay....he is SOOO lucky. And that is an accident that should never have happened. Why was the session not red flagged if there was debris on the track???

And Lee Janotta, there is another example of catch fencing saving a drivers life. No doubt at all that it did.

Kanaan, Dixon, Franchitti, Brack, who else is in danger?

Dixon has five breaks in his hand and three more in his wrist. He is being interviewed on the radio now.

Brack was still skidding down the track when Mario came thru.

Jesus!! That was a Tom Sneva, Pancho Carter, Jim Crawford & Allessandro Zampedri's Indy crash all rolled into one!!! What a horrific shunt. Walking away from THAT, sure gives a different meaning to "Andretti luck" @ Indy!

I respect Mario for always being the racer and wanting to get in a machine and drive, but I sure don't want to loose him in an accident driving one of those pieces of ****!

Yeah, WTHR (channel 13 in Indy) got it on tape and they've been playing it non-stop...Mario is SO lucky!!! Kenny Brack's car wasn't severely damaged, and he's fine. So, do you think Mario will still be willing to qualify Tony's car later? I think maybe Michael should look at some other drivers for replacements... we don't want to see anything else happen to Mario!

So odd to open up AOL's motorsport headlines box & the top stories involve Mario & Nigel Mansell. I feel like I'm 10 years back in time! Thank God, both Mario & Nigel are OK. In case you didn't hear about Nigel, he was rolled last night by some hooligan trespassers on the grounds of his mansion. Like Mario, he just sustained a few cuts & bruises.

Here's to Mario & Nige!

My mistake, you couldn't see Kenny in the replay, just an apparently stationary piece of debris.

If anyone's counting Tomas Schekter hit the wall too today.

If you are going to blame the crapwagons for all the injuries why not give it credit when it kept Mario in one piece? Had it been in a Champ Car you guys would I be wrong to assume that you would be getting a hard on about how it is built like a tank?

Looking at the video I don't know how much effect the HANS had, save for keeping Mario's spine from compressing on the landing.
