Andy Metcalf should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
CART at Brands

So, how many Champ Cars will end up in what is left of the gravel trap at Paddock Hill bend?

They will be doing 195mph as they 'hit' Paddock Hill.

And lapping in about 35 seconds.

Hopefully next year they will be on the Grand Prix circuit.

There's no way they'll be going 195mph into Paddock hill. 180 perhaps, but I'd guess 170-175 is more realistic.

No doubt some fo them will end up off course with the circuit being so short and tight and traffic being a major factor.

I don't know the circuit, but let me tell ya I'm really looking forward to the race!

CBS seems to be carrying Sunday quals (along with a season "preview") at noon ET.
Race being shown live in Canada on TSN Monday at 9AM!

I heard on the RPM forum that it would be on at 1:30am instead of 11:30pm because of Big Brother or something :S

Oh great...

Still, it's gonna be a fantastic race, as long as they all keep it together into Paddock Bend. The photos of a pack of Champ Cars sweeping through will be a sight to behold

They reckon entry into Paddock Hill at 175 mph, exiting at 150 mph. That's pretty quick my friends!

I'm at Brands all three days marshalling so look for an orange blob wearing a Type-R hat!!!

Wow! I can't wait to see the speed of the Champ cars, but how do they go about it if it rains? Can they still run on road circuits? Or is it treated like an oval race?

They're doing two days of qualifying, so I'd imagine that they're treating it like any other road course and will race in the rain.

Really can't wait for CART on Monday from Brands. I've never seen anything this fast lap Brands before so it'll be interesting for me.

At MIS and Detroit, a pit pass allowed access to the paddock, but not vice-versa. That's why paddock-only passes were cheaper.

I dunno if they'd do it in the rain. 19 cars on only 1.2 miles, going into Paddock at 175mph? Sounds like a massive wreck waiting to happen.

But do they have a choice after Surfer's last year? I don't think anyone would stand behind the series if they had to cancel another non-oval race on account of rain.

Nothing today, Steve. The race is Monday, so that becomes Sunday, Sunday becomes Saturday, and tommorrow becomes Friday.

This article answers two questions...

http://www.cart.com/News/Article.asp?ID=5912

This afternoon the drivers and teams were allowed a two-hour "orientation" which allowed them to drive round the track in road cars, or walk with their teams and engineers to familiarize themselves with the layout. Patrick Carpentier's road car returned – to the amusement of the paddock – totally covered in mud...

"I think it depends how the weather goes," said Moreno. "If the people that have never raced here don’t get a chance to drive in the dry in practice and the race is dry then maybe the experience will count. But the drivers here are very capable and if they get a few hours practice they will get used to it."

Manning, the only native in the field, agrees: "If it’s wet it could be a little more of an advantage, but to be honest the circuit is so short and these boys are so good, I think they’ll all know their way around by the end of the first practice session."

The Champ Cars are on the track for the first time at 5am ET. We’ll be live on champcarworldseries.com, with timing and scoring...
