I keep hurting my back

Ok I'm going to get a rib-tec as I keep hurting my back - however has anyone got any other suggestions? is it possible to do a personal seat with expanding foam like they do for single seaters? or will that affect stiffness etc? weights not a worry btw

thanks

I used to use padding , just normal foam and stuff like that , just cut it out and tape it to your seat and chuck a cover over it so it stays in place , and try it until you feel comfortable , it may take a few tests to get it right , but after i did this I never had a sore back or ribs ever again (unless i crashed )

Not sure if it will help - but when I was racing I used an oversized seat and then filled a bin bag with two part expanding foam formula. Placed it in the seat and sat in it. Once it had gone off its form fitting and definitely helps against the bumps and bruises.

Yeah I think I will try the adding foam first and then if that does'nt work I reckon its the old expanding foam. Added to that I need to get fit!

Yeah - I think the injury in my back has'nt healed properly yet to be honest. As frustrating as it is I reckon I might have to take some time out of the seat - which is really annoying as I want to go testing in 12 days time and then the following three weekends are race meetings! grrrr....

Yeah I found I kept injuring my back while indoor karting & I would end up with a big cut across my back. Now I just tape a small cushion to my back under my overalls and that helps a lot!

hi i'm a proffesional kart driver and since i've been winning in europe in the last 2 years steve tillet has been giving me free seats and ribtec's. Personally i would advise you to get a rib tec if are having problems because otherwise it will be too late. www.tillet.co.uk to check out photos etc. You can just use foam, normally you are just getting bruised because of seat bolts or a **** seat so check where the bruise is because you might only need a piece of padding.

Unfortunately the seat is a Tillet... but yes I have tried a rib-tec which seemed to help altho the injury is actually more internal than bruising - I think it may be the way the seating position is set. Also would probably help me if I did some stretching before I get in!

thing is if you have bruised it the tillet can not stop it it can only help to prevent further pain, so really you just need to be patient adn let it heal but yeah stretching is always a possibilty.

Ghinzani - have you tried wearing a dog attack suit under your overalls, plenty of padding and excellent peace of mind in the event of a surprise police dog raid.

Well I had 10 laps in a mates 100 this evening and the back was fine, despite the thump in the back from his new and very hot engine so thats encouraging. Not going to race for a few weeks yet tho to let it heal completely - I have to say the Tillet Rib-tec is fantastic tho, its like having a twin chassis protecting you when your driving - bit like a Lotus 88 !! Thanks to everyone for their sometimes pertinent advice and also to KartingFu(k?)n whose ability to get gearbox karts off the line preceeds him.
