Didn't take them that long did it? Wouldn't that have to be some sort of record for success in the top class after a team debut?

And it would be the first non-Japanese win since Kocinski won on the Cagiva in the USA in 1993 I think... but don't hold me to that.

rossi's ride from 6th place was more memorable than capirossi's win - but congrats to loris and ducati

it would be great if rossi was 6th in every race with a couple of laps to go so he could really test/ride the bike to its limits

Well, he was pretty much at the limit by the way he reeled in Gibernau in South Africa wasn't he?

Interest to point out that every non-japanese win is due to an italian manufacturer (Cagiva, Ducati) at least in the top class series.
Provided that I'm obviously happy about it, I just wonder if other countries may emerge... (USA, Germany etc)

BMW in Moto GP that would be something. Don't see Harley Davidson entering though!

I was thinking about those two brands, too, and I agree with you that BMW is much more predictable than HD, even if it would be rather exciting to see, and good to stimulate interest in the US

Well they could hardly do worse than Kawasaki's miserable return to the top GP class, could they?

Would not surprise me at all if BMW decided to take the plunge into MotoGP in the near future. With the rise in popularity of motorcycle racing, recently in the past five years, now would be the best time for a manufacturer such as BMW to increase awareness and sales of their brand.

Harley came closest with the VR1000, but that couldn't cut it in AMA Supers, so they used the basics of the motor in the V-Rod.

But Harley only have motorcycles.

A few years ago (late '80's) the rumour was BMW was going out of the bike business. Cars were going fine and the investment needed in the bikes to bring them into the multi-valve area was seen as too much.

Don't get me wrong, I have ridden more klms on Beemers that anything else. They are great road bikes. But apart from the Randy Mamola 'Boxer Cup' they ain't race bikes.

Plus the Germans know how to work an abacus.

Thank God the Italians (Americans now) don't.

This is getting too political. Nice to see Hoffman rode the Kawasaki well in the wet though. Very respectable.
