Larini at Sauber?

Hi!
I found an interresting picture. I think this is Larini's tests at Sauber C15 in the end of 1996. Am I right? Also I can't grasp on which track this shot was done? Mabe it's Le Castelle?

He was Ferrari test driver at the time and thus got a ride - if only they'd do that with Luca now!

ok here is a shot of Larini driving for Coloni , this is the helmet he used in F1 , so unless he borrowed someone else's helmet I dont think thats him in the Sauber , which makes me wonder who it is then ???

The track looks like the A1 ring to me. If my memory serves me correctly, Larini drove one or two races for Sauber in '96 or '97. Time to go digging in the records!

Larini had lots of helmets, but that one looks like Bob Earl's. Or Palmer's.

Larini drove for Sauber-Petronas in the first five/six races of the 1997 season before being replaced by Gianni Mordidelli and Norberto Fontana.

Larini scored a sixth place and one point at the Australian GP.

As for the picture itself, I've got no idea!

it does look like Palmers helmet to me , but I doubt that very much.

and yes larini did have plenty of helmets but for the majority of the time he used the blue one thats pictured in the coloni.

its not morbidelli's helmet thats for sure his is very different , but it could be Fontana but i have no idea what his helmet is like ???

and i just noticed that the car still has Ford stickers on it (Saubers engine in 96 but not 97 they used ferrari)

so with that in mind then it possible isnt Larini at all , given his ferrari contacts at the time he wouldnt have been allowed to test the ford engine i believe.

this is very curious and im really interested to find out who it actually is ?

Did Palmer and John Watson not test a Sauber at the "new" A1 ring in 1996?

Fontana's was sort of 2 tone blue hoops. If Palmer did test a Sauber, that must be his helmet, it is very similar to his later design.

I not sure about Palmer, but Watson did. It was during the launch of the new track.

Palmer did test the sauber at the A1 Ring in 96:

This from http://www.johnnyherbert.co.uk/intsa...hungry96.shtml

We had a slight problem with the engine at the test on the brand new Austrian track, the A1-Ring, but we changed it and I was immediately able to go faster than the lap record. To be twelve seconds faster than the Superbikes is an achievement and I am proud to have done that. It was fun watching the television commentary team driving the cars afterwards. Jonathan Palmer (BBC), Marc Surer (DFI) and John Watson (Eurosport) all had a go and were as impressed as Le Mans winner Alexander Wurz, who also tried out the car.
