wow, what a race! *spoilers*
Holy cr@p what a finish! Now that is what IndyCar racing is supposed to be like - I literally held my breath the entire last 8 laps after the restart there. What a finish, man... That was spectacular
 Congrats to Sam Hornish Jr.!  (edit) Almost forgot, kudos to Ed Carpenter for putting in a respectable run in his IndyCar debut, running very well before eventually finishing 13th. Last edited by rustyfan; 7 Sep 2003 at 19:53. |

3 Wide across the line, but it's another win from sam the man
 What a finish that was, man I could not belive that! One of the most exciting races I've ever seen...kudos to Carpenter indeed, he ran a very strong race. It was great to see Buhl and Lazier up there too, they havent really been anywhere this year but it was nice to see them have a strong race. Another veteran who had a strong race was Richie Hearn, I think he lead the most laps. The rookies had a great race too - Wheldon, Yazukawa and Carpenter (as mentioned) all having great races. Congtats to Sam though, he deserves this one. Well done to Herta and Dixon though, they kept it right on the ragged edge but just couldn't beat Sam the Man

0.0099 - 99 ten thounsands of a second was the winning margin. I do belive thats the second closest finish in history

it sure was! Man... Dixon finished one ten thousandth of a second ahead of Herta. Amazing stuff
This race will be talked about for a long long time.

Personally I've seen road races that were equally as exciting as the finish today. Very fun to watch.
As for the yellow, they had to throw it, Helio was stopped on the race track. |

Fantastic racing there, a barely beleivable photo finish, with soem rgeat racing beforehand - Yasukawa showed nerves of steel as he went for the lead, and Sam did well to take it in the end. Close finishes always involve Junior, don't they?

unbelievable.
I was speechless , I was sure that mad man Hornish was gonna crash with yasukawa going three wide , LOL what was he thinking ??? he tried and tried all race it was never gonna work , but hey if anyone is gonna get it to work its Sam , simply astonishing. and Dixon , where the heck did he come from ??? he wasnt even a factor until the last 100 metres. plenty of great racing with an amazing finish , yes that track lends itself to that kind of racing but it sure is exciting racing. several stand outs in my opinion. 1. Sam , can he really do it from here 43 points down ?? 2. Lazier and Buhl , great drives just bad luck robbed them. 3. Carpenter , very solid performance and lets not forget he is on a hiding to nothing being TG's stepson but still great effort. I cant wait for the next one now

Different class! 16 cars on the lead lap separated by 2 seconds with 35 to go wow! I thought last seasons hairline finishes involving Hornish were pretty awesome but this race tops the lot for sheer excitement from flag to flag.
I notice the conspiracy theorists are inevidence once again in this forum with the old yellow flag ****. Give me a break. This was motor racing at its best,evrything above board and kosher. Deal with it! For me Hornish has to be one of the guttsiest racers of all time in any form of motorsport, up there with Senna,Mansell,Villeneuve(Gille) and their ilk. He'll become an open wheel legend if he aint one already.
