Louvres Talk
hello everyone,
i've just joined up & want to say hi. about those louvre vents, what are they used for? (grip/lift/manoeuvrability) how come Le Mans cars don't really use them while the ALMS cars do? Last edited by TerryC; 9 Sep 2003 at 10:56. |

Louvres are all about downforce generation and aerodynamic balance. At Le Mans they become drag producers and generally are removed from the car in the interest in higher straight line speeds.

As a case in point, here's a shot of the special louvre inset that Lister fitted for Le Mans, replacing the full-length set of louvres their LMP normally uses, uh, in testing, that is.

To bring this topic back up again...
Quote:
Champion configuration at the Friday pit walk: Veloqx configuration at the Friday pit walk: With so little set-up variation allowed by Audi on the customer cars these differences are probably the biggest you'd see. |

I noticed when watching SPEED's recap of the Monza LMES round that the Veloqx Audi #8 had a higher downforce set of louvers (Like the Champion configuration above) while the Veloqx Audi #88 ran the configuration like it did at Le Mans.

Interesting I hadn't noticed that (although I've still not seen that race - the recording is at my parents!).
