Wyatt Stanley
Anyone remember this chap, a UK based F3 racer of late 70s early 80s. He had an old March for a time, then got one of the very first RT3s I think. For a time only he and Rob Wilson had these in 1980, then the flood followed after!
He later had a F2 Ralt, called an RT2 in, I think, early 81. I don't think this was an ex-Toleman car, it couldn't have been an update of the RT3 (could it?) so what was it? Who was Wyatt, any answers please, on him and his cars, purely for my curiosity I should add ? Dan |

As this one has gone very dead, I'll see if I can restart it, or is Mr Stanley so obscure that no-one can recall him or his cars - admittedly he did spend most of his time at the back of the grid! But as the second ever cahp to run the RT3 in Britain, I thought he may have rung some bells. Equally interesting, to me at least, is the RT2/RT6 he had in early 81, or may have been early 82, certainly in the Silverstone saeson opener. Anyone any ideas on this ???

I remember him Dan, but don't seem to have any photos or info on him. I think he had a white RT3?

He raced a self-entered Ralt RT1 in 1979, but didn't score any points.

I remember him in a red RT3, as Dan says, he,along with Rob Wilson was one of the first to race the soon to be all conquering Ralts.
There was another guy who had an RT3 quite early, was it Placedo Iglesias, or Jorge Koechlin???????? |

The first RT3's I remember were the Johansson's Project Four car and a yellow one of Eliseo Salazar. Salazar lost it under braking into Woodcote (on the club circuit) in the wet at the end of the first lap and took out the leading guys who were into the apex.

Wyatt Stanley was probably one of the first racers to try and make the transition from karting to single seaters. He was a leading competitor in karts around 76-77. Didn't really have much joy in F3 though he always had up to date equipment.
Pace the RT3s, I think that Salazar's was the first because Pee Wee Siddle who ran his car had a close tie up to Tauranac. Rob Wilson also got one quite early I think. Chris |

Thanks for responses. The very first RT3 was in mid-79 when Salazars car came out. I guess up til then the factory was getting the Toleman RT2s sorted, and up and running. The Salzar car was yellow I think, and backed by assorted Chilean companies, who went with Eliseo to RAM the next year. The 79 RT3 was fully skirted as I recall, and didn't do too badly, given Eliseo's lack of experience. I think that a number of others were down to buy/race them, but when they were late, they bought Marches instead. From distant memory, I think another RT3 may have gone to Italy that year.
Other than the Toleman RT2s, I think the only other 'new' Ralt that year was Mallock's RT4 at the final Atlantic race at Brands, which he won (where did this car go after??). The next year, 80, Rob Wilson got the first RT3, which may have been the Salazar car modified (??), then Wyatt S, then Albertin, EJ, Johansson. The rest of the RT3 history is well known... Back to Wyatt, I checked Autocourse, he definitely started the 81 Silverstone Int. Trophy in an F2 Ralt Hart, described as an RT2. Any info on this one ? |

I can remember giving him a lift to Towcester, for a medical in his F3 days. The F2 he drove was a red Hart powered RT4 (similar to the works Honda V6 powered cars), but he didn't do many races in it, I think it was then sold, and raced by David Duffield (in blue/white).

Spearce, thanks for that. I don't think the Duffield car was Stanley's though, it was ex-Leslie I believe, an Atlantic, that Duffield uprated to an F2, with BDX I think. It later passed to James Stevenson I recall with Hart motor. I saw it at Mallory in 84-85.
On this subject, anyone know anything about Paul Rhodes RT4 that he had in 84, with Atlantic engine ?? |

Do you mean Paul Brooks, Dan, in a non-standard bodied RT4 in 1984, entered as a Hornet-Ralt?

Jeremy, you're quite right, it is Paul Brooks I had in mind, I guess you were at that meeting too. All this Libre/F2/Atlantic excitement is getting too much for me ! know anything about him or the car ?
Btw am I right on the Duffield/Stevenson RT4 ? |

Stevenson used chassis 185 in 1984, which is the ex-Duffield chassis, I think, unless tells me I'm wrong, which I'm quite willing to accept!
Don't know a lot about Brooks's chasis though. |

One of the funniest moments at a GP at Silverstone. back in the late 70's/early 80's (I think). Walking through the camp site on Saturday evening. Various factions were chanting the names of their heros in typical football style, ie. "Nelson Pee-Kay...", "Kekky Roz-bu-urgh", etc, when some wag interrupted with the classic "Wyatt Stanley...." A moment of inspired irony.
As I remember, Wyatt and his brother (?) were competing in F3 at the time. A white Ralt RT1 and a Simpson Bandit helmet strikes a chord. True privateer effort in a changing environment. Good to see.... |
