First memories...

Been getting a bit nostalgic over here in Sydney with a friend, going through her photo albums and video collection reminiscing about the good old days... meaning 1990's!

So was just wondering what some people's first memories of motorsport are? Mine was watching Jim Richards and Mark Skaife duelling it out on the track in the Winfield cars, couldn't tell you what year, probably 94/95...

Watching Allan Moffat have an almighty spin at Bathurst and not hit anything . Ended up winning after the Brock Torana ran out of petrol .

The good old days , 1990s . They were only yesterday .

First recollection of being aware of motorsport was Bathurst sometime in the late 70's (whatever year it was that racecam went into that Willmington Celica - sorry I should look it up but I have no time and undoubtably somebody here will know it off the top of their head!).

Vague memory of watching Moffat and Bond 1,2. But first really memory of Brock winning in 1982

Your memory is bad. It was the Williamson celica.

Warwick Farm - 1972 - Australian Touring car Championship - my first race meeting - and seeing Moffa's car fail to finish and Moffat sitting on hay bails watching the race go by...

Watching Norm Beechey in the S4 at Lakeside in the early 60's - I would go there by train to Petrie and walk/hitch to the circuit - managed a few rides in the Ambulance.

Having been attending race meetings since i was only a couple of months old it is hard to recall what my earliest memories were but i think it would've had to have been the A9X's which have been my favourite ever racing cars since then.

First memory of motor sport. Hmmm. That would be Mount Druitt 1953. I was four years old, but I do remember. A light green Holden ground to halt in front of us on Railway Straight. The driver got out with a small bottle of soft drink in his hand. He opened it by putting the cap against the bumper and banging it with his hand. I was amazed. I'd never seen anyone open a soft drink bottle without a bottle opener.

That was my first motor sport memory. There's been a few million since.

My first memories, my dad taking me to sit outside Sandown along the back straight when i was about 5 or 6, i remember him telling me about Moffatt, and thinking how nice the red car looked...lol

Then we watched it on TV (hey, i was young & didn't understand how bad the coverage was, ok) on the ABC yet.... Will Hagon, John Smailes doing the commentary, wasn't that bad really, a lot less adverts....

i know i went to lakeside a couple of times in the late 60's but was very young and don't remember any special races there, 1st race that stuck in my mind was Bathurst 69 when Bill Brown rolls the falcon along the fence.

rustyinsthoz, the race AM spun and won race and PB ran out of petrol was Bathurst 73. Doug Chivas was driving when the car ran out of petrol and he coasted into the pits but car stopped before the line thats signified the start of the pits and no one was allowed to touch the car until he pushed it over the line which took him a few mins to do
Big Pete Geoghegan (god rest his soul) was AM's co-driver
