Citroen 24 Hour 2CV Race - Snetterton

On another page there have been some exchanges on the date of the 2CV 24 Hour race next year.
As most of you will know, all race meeting dates for next year are still somewhat fluid. However, quite some time ago, the provisional 2004 date was set for June 18/19/20. In recent weeks there have been various pressures to move it one way or another.
I'm pleased to be able to tell you that it now looks like the date has been fixed (so far as is possible just now) at June 18/19/20. This is the weekend after Le Mans and from what we can gather, will suit many marshals.
All the 2CV racers greatly appreciate the great work that marshals do. The unique 24 hour poses its own special challenges, and when the 2004 event is formally announced in January, we hope you'll see that we've given some though to helping make it a great weekend for all involved - marshals, drivers, teams and spectators.
The 2CV Racing Club should have a stand at Autosport International and we look forward to talking with marshals there.
The club site is down just now, so if you have any queries, you can contact me on mharrold@lionpic.co.uk

Martin - 2CV racers may do it slowly, but usually with great style by what I've seen!

Actually, we're only slow at accelerating down the straights.

We're as quick, if not quicker, though the bends as any other saloons - which we tend to find very amusing on test days. (I personally take great pleasure at going back past 'quicker' cars in a corner after they have just blown me away on a straight).

Plus we're much more sociable through the bends ;-) You'll often find 3 or 4 of us side by side in corners where everyone else tends to go solo - hence the style you refer to.

Good news! I wanted to go last year but Le MAns just won out. Now i just need the Nurburgring to be moved, and I can get the grand slam!

Martin, the 2cv's were a great laugh and great fun to watch they seemed like they were driven and a 150% for the whole 24hrs. Friday night I was flagging at Russell and was amazed howquick they took it. Normally their website gives inf that you are looking for, but if you contact Mr Harrold sure he can point you in right direction

Racing a 2CV

The best way to get started is to either come along and look at a car on the 2CV Racing Club stand at Autosport International, or come along to a race.
Have a look at www.2cvracing.co.uk This is not right up to date just now, but there is some useful info there.
Anyone can race - you need to do an ARDS test and get an MSA licence and some kit. After that, a seat in the 24hr will cost around £800 for a 1/4 share, which gives about 6hrs racing.

Martin - yes, 2CVs are FWD - but they oversteer rather than understeer!

You do shifts of about 3 hours on and 3 hours off - it's really good fun, the atmosphere electric and the racing brilliant...go for it!

Peter Harding should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Last year i helped with the allocation and realised that we needed more marshals and that we would do better if we made it clear that anyone can volunteer for any part of the event. If a few people can only do one 4 hour shift it will help and I am prepared tp spend as much time as necessary sorting out shifts if they want me to. Please volunteer for what you can but make it clear when you are available.

Thanks for the advice Logrence and Peter. i was always under the impression that if you volunteered for the 24hr you had to do 24 hr, but now i know that i can help for a few hours then i'll put a tick in the box on the volunteering sheet, i saw a 2CV at Snetterton for the BHF weekend and it wasn't hanging around even though it was raining, at one point he even had it sideways out of Coram ! 8-)

i will PM or email you Peter nearer the time, just in case things change between now and then, the last thing i want to do is waste your time sorting shifts and i can't make it ! 8-#

I'm a liability after 10 minutes doing nothing, never mind 24 hours!

Make sure you've got yourself a tent or a comfortable car and you'll be fine!

I'm pleased to tell you that the 2CV Racing Club will have a feature stand at Autosport International. It is in Hall 9, near the main visitor entrance, No. 9267. Club members manning the stand will be pleased to meet marshals visiting the show.
I'm also pleased to tell you that entries for the '04 race are flowing in and we should have around 40 cars on the grid - several more than last year. We've identified the likely cause of the timing problem in '03 and MST, who will be doing it in '04, have come up with a few changes which should ensure that everything runs smoothly.
Happy New Year to you all.

The 2CV event was one of the highlights of my marshalling last year and have just ticked the appropriate box on the forms. Spent a pleasant evening with wall planner, various marshalling forms, diaries, pens, chocolate and red wine last night. Hopefully all be posted off tomorrow.

Hoping you all had a good Christmas and Happy New Year to you all.

looking to start with the 750 at Mallory, First at Snet on 18th April I believe. Andy going to Autosport on Saturday I'm not. Dont want to waste my money.
