diesels Seats in 04 BTCC

The car will be the only oil-burner in the series, and will be a fascinating sub-plot to keep a close eye on as the season progresses." Diesels have become quicker in recent times somtimes quicker than their petrol counterparts so they could be a surprise. They where off the pace in the etcc though so perhaps this could just make it worse? |

Not so fast there. SEAT did not launch the team today. According to the people on the SEAT stand it was all a big mistake and was never planned to be announced today.

SEAT UK definitely want to run a diesel, I'm pretty sure of that.
The ETCC petrol unit hasn't been the strongest, so if they run in the BTCC with a diesel and win, people will be amazed, but then they've also got a good excuse for not doing well - by running a diesel. And the PR they'd get by being the first manufacturer to run a diesel in the BTCC would just be like Volvo with that Estate! Not only that I reckon it'd be good press for the BTCC too. |

with RMLs help Seat really could be a force to reckon with as they develop the car.
RML have got to be the most successful team in recent times for winning championships with different cars. (Vauxhall and Nissan) |

no doubt they will try petrol and diesel when they test next week, thrash them to bits and then decide depending on speed and reliability.

Touring legend is correct. SEAT UK do want to run a Diesel. However, until the exact rules are defined by ETCC/FiA and how that will be implemented into ToCA they are unable to make a decision. AFAIK the longer this decision takes the less likley they will run Diesels, although I did hear from someone that the Diesel has been on the Dyno and ready to test. SEAT did run a diesel in a Touring Car European Challenge thing last year with Gianni Morbidelli driving and have some experience with VW Golf TDi that has had some competition experience.

The FIA rules exist in FIA web site. New article 263D Specific Regulations for Modified Production Diesel Cars on Circuits.
It seems that it would be possible to build winning car based on those regulations. The return of the turbo era! |

I think that if they do run a diesel it could spring a surprise on the twisty stuff but may struggle round Place like Thruxton but if it can win in other series' then i am all for it
