ETCC: 2003 title not decided yet?

Carly Motors can change 2003 title
ETCC 31/01/04

It will be up to the FIA International Court of Appeal to deliver the final verdict concerning the 2003 FIA European Touring Car Championship. The Court will meet on February 12th, to discuss the appeal lodged by Carly Motors against Alfa Romeo driver Gabriele Tarquini.

The Dutch team had lodged a protest after the final round of the season in Monza, on October 19th, because of an accident involving Tarquini and Duncan Huisman. The protest was rejected by the Stewards of the Meeting, and the subsequent first-degree appeal was also rejected by the Italian National Court of Appeal on December 11th.

I wish this would get sorted out, at least now we will get a FINAL verdict. This isn't what racing is about, its about on track competition, so I hope we won't see this situation again in a years time. I want to see racing not battles in court, if I wanted to see that I would go to my local court and watch! instead I visit my local track.

By the way, thanks for the info Johan

I totally agree. The new season will begin at a time not too far away and we still have this kind of comedy It's also very bad for the image of the series (and for the teams/people participating too).

After all this time, they could not take his title off him surely. As much as fair's fair, it would make the ETCC the biggest joke on the planet! Surely the organisers don't want that!

appqarently it is Gabrielle Tarquini!
he drove very well last year- but this is no way to secure your title, they should have a make up race to decide...

I love touring cars, but really--can the FIA just decide who the champion is??? Surely, this must have been longest unconfirmed championship in history???

Not sure if it actually holds the record but the 1983 BTCC title was finally decided in August 1984.
