Cirtek To Bathurst In RSR

As revealed on the Procar forum, Rob Shirle announced that he will return to the Bathurst 24 Hours this coming November/ December(i cant actually recall the date) with brand new spanking Porsche RSR's to take on and win the race. As written, one car has been filled with yet to be announced drivers and the other nearing completion. This is a mammoth job to be this far into preparation at this early time. While I understand this isnt an official announcement it does show somewhat of a commitment to the race and I wish him all the best.
The first of many international teams

i remember reading the forums last year. rob had high hopes for the 2003 b24, but it just wasn't there. maybe with so early prepration for this year, maybe a podium contender! or best placed car you can buy from a showroom

It's great to see Cirtek taking the race seriously, i just hope they have a better driver line up than last year.

Mmm. If I was Rob, i would consider hiring Ford V8sc drivers. (except i dont thionk they're allowed)

Imagine having Ambrose, Lowndes and Seton (bad luck?) driving... B24 would be a uselfull tool to get young guys from konica etc. to get some serious experience at the hill. but.. if the Ortelli, Brabs dream team that was spoken of came into fruition...

It has to be incouraging for PROCAR to have them atleast talking about the race and there preperation, maybe it will have a flow on effect for a few other teams from O/S.I would like to see some of those real sports cars over here, things like the Chase etc.To dam far to travel to see them otherwise.

I think Cirtek would be better off with 4 Euro Porsche specialists than 4 Aussie tin top racers.Even open wheeler guys would be better as shown by Will Power doing the fastest Porsche lap in the 2004 race in the 888 car.

Good point. I was impressed with will (as were PHR )
but he did not set the fastest porsche lap. the 2:15.8 of the #24 cirtek GT3 RS takes care of that.

See results below.

V8 drivers are actually pretty good steerers. Look at Jim Richards and other V8 drivers in exotics such as J Bowe. Also look at the results for V8 drivers in Bathurst 24hr. V8 drivers are typically austs best drivers since v8 is the top category in aust.

Combine the above points with track knowledge. In my view SOME OS drivers are over rated. However many are genuinely great drivers (which might not show in the results).

Jurgen Alzen, Uwe Alzen, Michael Bartels, Arno Klasen, Andreas Montermini, Dave Brabham...

Heaps. But all of the ones that i have listed brough their own car. The Alzen Bros. are some of the best steerers to charge down the mountain.

I dont think OS drivers are overated. An experienced team of Porsche drivers such as the names mentioned I believe would be the best option. Personally I dont want to see a top line Porsche driven by V8 taxi drivers, the international drivers make it exciting

Let's hope they can bring their 996 Turbo out to Bathurst this year.....

Uwe Alzen was glorious to watch across the top during the rain.

I doubt it would last at the boost levels required to be competitive with the Monaro and Lambo

How will RPM's speculated GT40 operation go in the Bathurst 24 Hour Race?

It seems certain that Ross wants to compete, and his driver line-up will without doubt create a stir.

GT40's taking it to Mt Panorama are an interesting concept...compared to the Monaro effort????

I think the European drivers definately add something to the event as it's the only time you can see these drivers compete & while there are some that are over rated i also believe there are some Australians that fall in to that category.

Note the word SOME in my comment. However I do agree with both comments above. International drivers are an integral part of making Bathurst 24hr a great race.

A talked to Alzen driver Aron Klasen at B24. he said that the 996TT was refused entry. He claimed though, that every measure will be taken to bring it to the 24 this year. If King Jimmy is entering his mongrel, then the alzens should be okay to bring their toy too...

That car lapped the N.Ring in like, 6:41 or something last year. beast.

I am sure that with the appropriate driver, suspension tune, tyre package and unleashing of the talent that a Monaro could do a 2.06 laptime too... but not for 24hrs

Imagine what giving it to someone like SHRT could do... they are easily 20bhp up on the best GRM engine...

or if they had years of development. v8s haven't changed much since the vt's debut... that is a lap of time to refine a chassis, driveline.

Aren't there atmo vipers around with silly power?
Might be oreca, or larbre...

Heini Mader produced a few special engines for Vipers... hideously expensive, but how fast can you afford to go??

Supercar engines have shifted in power from their introduction in 1992 from around 580bhp to last year's VX engines in the SHRT jet of a tickle under the 650bhp mark. So they have come a looong way...
