Filters (lens protection)
Sorry guys - another question...
What filter is recommended primarily to protect my lens, but hopefully to also enhance my images ? Just polarising ? |

A Hoya Skylight 1B filter on can be left on all the time to protect your lens. It reduces excessive bluiness in outdoor photos. An alternative could be a UV(0) filter.(I think all the big lens suppliers have their own versions of Skylight and UV filters).
A polariser is not the sort of filter that you want to be using permanently to protect the lens. |

Also makes cleaning easier - leave the skylight on all the time and its a breeze to remove it once in a while for cleaning, instead of having to worry about damaging your expensive lenses.

It shouldn't change anything unless the filter ring causes a little vignetting at wide focus.

Skylight and UV filters don't reduce the light passing through enough to notice, even if you stacked them up. Well ok, maybe if you stacked up about 10 of them that is...

I've always got a skylight or UV on whatever I use. Saved my butt on a rally the other week! Good ol' sacrificial filters are also good for speedway work
