Rossiter's Overalls

A trivial point perhaps, but I couldn't help noticing that Rossiter was wearing his overalls from last years McLaren/Autosport Awards wotsit in the podium ceremomy photo in this weeks comic.

Given that, by repute, his family are not so short of funding that he hasn't got another set of overalls. Why might this be ?

Is he making a point about the contest. It would be odd to draw attention to something you didn't win, or maybe he's saying that he should have ? Is he using it to suggest his supportability in terms of potential sponsors? He can't be using it as an early pitch for this year because he's no longer eligible for it/

PS
Anyone else noticed how Autospit has emphasised the gossip/news angle on the front cover for the past few weeks and down played ( relatively ) the race reports that they usually splash all over?

Last weeks was promoting Villeneuve to Williams speculation and the GP was an innocuous strip across the bottom were they usually put the sports cars or BTCC if there was a good race... This weeks further Williams drivers gossip!

He's actually supported by the BRDC if you hadn't noticed it on the side of his car !!

Can you blame Autosport for that cover? It's a bit more interesting than seeing 18 covers in a year all saying 'Schumacher wins race' don't you think?

Just as in the message, wondering if JR was making a point ? I am unable to attend the races at the moment so have only seen the photo's in the comic.

I've probably been reading too many plot laden books recently...

I think so Fred! If your given a free set of overalls then you might as well use them till they're knackered! Plus its an honour on its own to be just selected for the Award so he's probably wearing them with pride!

I thought the Wisden Cricketer had dropped onto my doormat yesterday, and then I realised it was Montoya on the cover in a white BMW shirt and not Michael Vaughan in a white England shirt...

Craig Murray wore his Young Driver overalls until he was too fat for them, I seem to remember, even tho he didn't win it. So did anthony davidson.

It's a bit like a Gucci handbag for racing drivers, if you've got it, flaunt it.

Although I dare say Danny had to hand back his RDD overalls...

He can't fit into any of his other overalls? I know the feeling, the same thing happens to me with jeans... One too many circuit-side burgers,,,

Given how hideous the RDD race suits are I should think anyone would be glad to see the back of them

Actually I thought it was a gentle nose thumbing at the previous winners who went on to not do anything the following year. Has he been wearing them all year so far ?

This is one of those threads that sometimes come up on ten-tenths that are just plain daft.

Can anyone give a good reason why on earth Rossiter SHOULDN'T wear those overalls?!

I bet there are some people who would pay him money not to wear them

No reason at all.

It has been a daft afternoon / evening. The literal minded can always resume sensible discussion such as
"Why DID they choose that colour scheme...?"

The McLaren Autosport BRDC Young Driver of the Year finalists are obliged to wear those overalls, whether they win or not.

Even when the competition has been over for six months ?

Trivial question answered then!

I understood it was for the full year - and if you get backing from the BRDC as well, I suspect you would be foolish not to wear them anyway.
