A V8 supercar at Le man ?
because the Le man 24hr race is on right now I was wondering is a V8 supercar elligible to run there ?
Lets say HRT or SBR took a car to le Man I dont know much about the race or classes they have , but what class would it run in and how do you think it would go ? Lets not get into what drivers would be in the car , lets say each team had 4 Michael Schumacher's in their cars How would a V8 supercar shape up at the greatest 24hr race in the world ? |

You could certainly take it to the Nurburgring, it would fit in one of their (too?) many classes there... except... Dunlop wouldnt supply tyres to the effort as AVESCO wouldnt allow a current model Supercar to operate outside Australia without AVESCO sanctioning....
... it seems the plans of Mr Trimble to take teh ex-Ellery GMS VS to the Spa 24hr race, saw no end of issues with Bridgestone not able to guarantee the safety of their tyres at that pace.... quite weird really... Be good to see... and SBR BA with Ambrose/Ingall/Ritter/McLean in the LeMans event... on good tyres (like pukka sidewall-marking-free works Michelins) with all the latest goodies....

oh yeah I remember that effort by Trimbole , but then he stuffed it big time at Phillip island.
I agree GTR it would be amazing to see

and if you couldnt get tyres why not run another brand ?
I mean there is an ex Wynn's car running in the UK , so why not have a different tyre ? |

I reckon a Supercar on 19" Michelins at the same width would be awesome.... but it wont happen here....
If I recall rightly, didnt Wayne Gardner's 1992 Bathurst car (the Strathfield Forbes VP) have 18" Dunlops aboard? |

I remember a couple of years ago there was 2 or 3 v8 supercars ( old ones like EF/ELs). None of them started the race as they all blew their engines. I think it was at the Nurburgring 24hr or Spa 24hr

Mike Newton bought a couple of ex-DJR EL's and took them to Europe... repowered them with some local motor, but didnt do any good with them
 Hows about taking Terry Wyhoon's EL over for a run... its not a Supercar any more, and is still quick... |

As mentioned Mike Newton entered an ex-DJR EL at the Nurburgring 24 Hours last year, but for whatever reason it didn't start. They did get a mention on the wrap-up SBS showed of the race though.
A V8Supercar could race at the Le Mans 24 Hours, but only in the Prototype (LMP1 or LMP2) class, and wouldn't have a hope of doing anything. There wouldn't be much point.... It has 4 doors and is not production based (which counts it out of the other two production based classes, GTS and N-GT) |

 A 24hr V8 Supercar race at Bathurst! Le Mans doesn't have any hills in it and where's The Dipper?
