Camping/Caravanning at Oulton Park

I've stopped at Oulton for two day meets (arrived Friday, left Sunday night) but does anyone know if you can arrive Friday night, marshal Saturday and then stay-over on the Saturday night of a one-day meet??

If the answer is no, anyone know of any recommended nearby sites ??

cheers.

For one day meeting you can't stay over night on Saturday. It is a pain as I have to travel 250 miles to get back home after a one day meeting.

Try ringing the circuit 01829 760301. If you explain you are marshalling and ask them nicely, they might let you stop over Saturday night, but you would probably need to be up and away early doors Sunday before the Race School punterooneys start arriving for their big thrill day out.

I know there are a few camp sites nearby, but know nothing about them. Try hitting a search engine looking for Cheshire Camp Sites. I seem to recall a similar thread a few months ago and several links were supplied.

Are you there this weekend Stu?
If so, see you somewhere.

Don't hold your breath though Stu - OP staff are not really that Marshal-friendly, although I hope to be proved wrong!

Ok Mark, "say's he, breathing out!!"..............

decided not to attend. Whilst I've never had a problem with any members of the Oulton Park staff, I do feel that allocating a small field with a 10am or so curfew would not be too difficult. But then again, it seems to be!!

I don't want or need paying, free goodies or even special bar-b-ques, nice and appreciated as they are; just a simple realisation of how far some of us marshals travel to support the sport we love.

So instead of fighting the north-bound traffic on the M6, setting my caravan up for two evenings, being able to chill with some drivers and marshals prior to a days racing, followed by the customary beer-after-meeting b**lsh*t as to who didn't win and why, to then be rounded-off by an enjoyable evening spent with likeminded people prior to a leisurely drive home on Sunday, with the chance to maybe stop-off somewhere.........

I'm offered; either....

Fight the traffic to get there, but leave after the racing, thereby destroying any chance of a social evening on Sat, followed by a drive home, to park my 'van and sort it out, which leaves me either knackered for Sunday or having to sort-it out before enjoy my "rest day".

or start-out really early on Sat in order to sign-on, with again no chance to relax on Sat evening as I have to drive home.

last choice;

reluctantly send my passes back and have a relaxing weekend.

Perhaps that was a little unfair - the majority of the lads who work for OP are usually OK as they know many of the marshals and what we do!

Mark - you are very good at giving people the wrong impression and losing me precious marshals!! So much for giving you extras last weekend - I'll tell Andy you want Shell this Saturday (BTW it is Island circuit!)

So it would appear!

I seem to get singled by the powers-that-be for making comments on here!

Take a look at my other posts and threads on here and make a note of how I have defended OP/BRSCC and BMMC

I don't get emails and remarks on here saying "Thanks for your support" do I! (Nor do I expect them - that's not why I post them)

By all means tell the Chief Observer where you think I should be posted!

That was meant as a joke - all the incident guys know they'll end up at Water Tower if they get on the wrong side of me. It was just to point out that I can get Flaggies and Observers moved if I wanted to!!!

No threats have ever come off yet - as I am not that bad really.

Just wanted to add that the Oulton Park team were very helpful over the weekend with all requests for garages being opened, tables and chairs being made available etc. They are most of the time only doing what those on high have asked them to do - I've never had a problem with any of them. This includes them kindly informing people on Saturday with MSA cards that only tickets would be accepted (which is what it said in the instructions anyway!!!!) - they could have just turned you away!!!!

Sorry not to see you Stu, but understand the frustration.
As it happens, I'm not racing due to some cock up on the admin front, but I'll be there to give the guys some grief.
Better wander down to Shell to visit Mark Mitchell, I guess.
