Is that correct?
I thought the points went down in thirtieth position? Still a silly system in my opinion. |

It youst to be down to twelve didn't it? But now they just give points for competing, the reward of scoring points has been taken away.

Indeed.
And these "bonus points" are silly. The reward for qualifying on pole is starting first - you don't need a point for that. And as for the "trundle round slowly and don't crash" points.... |

agreed they should have points down to 10th thats it. They are not awarding drivers who push for the win. If you look at Junquiera he hasn't even won a race this year and hes in championship chase, a head of PT who has won twice but has crashed a few times in the old f1 points scoring system he would be chasing Bourdais.

I don't like the way this system mainly awards odd numbers either, I know it's finicky of me but it's not as easy to calculate.
Giving points to everyone is ridiculous, and wins aren't rewarded enough. Last year you got 80% (16) of the winner's points for coming 2nd, 50% (10) for coming 5th, and 10% (2) for coming 11th. Now it's something like 87%, 67% and 33%. The hard charger point is a stupid thing to have in open-wheel racing where crashes are common. |

They should've kept the old system - it's tried and trusted, the fans knew it so it'd help retain familiarity, and the points gaps between positions were about right. Don't over-complicate things.

The current system would be good if there were more than 20 drivers; that way contestants in the race may not all score points. I think it might have been made for that reason, hoping that there would be more than 20 drivers...but we all know that prob won't happen anytime soon.
Hypocritical...? Yes maybe |

Actually, I think that the new system was devised in a deliberate attempt to give points all the way down the order, in an effort to increase the racing action at the back of the pack. When only the top-12 scored, the drivers in P16 and P17 may have not wanted to "mix it up" because there would have been nothing to gain in doing so. At least now there are points on the line.

Makes it sound like the poor P16 and P17 people were left out of their points
Are they giving out higher money amounts to those guys as well as higher points..? |

Stupid points system. The 10-6-4-3-2-1 would be better. Make people earn points rather than just getting them for turning up, it makes the whole thing look like sports day at a special school.

Opinions on this matter vary greatly, don't they?
Myself, I like the way that they're trying to improve the racing all the way down the order. Having said that, I didn't like the way that Bruno (with 0 wins) was leading Sebastien (with 3) in the championship. |

The old system rocked.
1 for pole 1 for most laps led and 20-16-14-12-10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 for race I hate this system. |

The old top-12 system worked well. That was the one change I never understood.

The old system was fine - but if they had to change it, points should've gone to less cars, not more.

We need some way to differentiate between the lower order drivers- look at f1, you could finish ninth or nineteenth and it makes no difference. Looking at f1 stats it astounds me how many ended their careers with 0 points. There's hundreds of them! Hardly fair to group all those drivers together on 0 points when some were obviously better than others. I say keep the generous points system, the best guys are always going to come out on top anyway, but at least this way we can grade and assess some of the backmarkers against each other. Don't go for the f1 system whatever you do.

The CART points system was perfect. Don't fix it if it ain't broken.
