Important news for Mt Panorama spectators
I am not sure how many people who are going to the races this year know this.
THERE WILL BE NO SPECTATING AT THE OUTSIDE OF THE CHASE!!! The company building the new hotel has fenced off the chase area and started excavating the site on friday. The area is fenced off all the way down to the Dunlop bridge(which is now the GMC bridge). So for all of us who liked to spectate at the chase, stiff bickies, as they are starting to build the motel. |

Now that is a blow. We've sat at Murray's since Garry Rush was a boy but thought last year we might head to The Chase. 1am on Sunday morning and the good spots were all taken by mysteriously full sleeping bags and swags and half dead bodies on collapsible chairs. "Next year" we thought.
Not now... Murrays here we come. Again!!! |

There is not top of the hill anymore. I was up there today working and went up into the new control tower and had a good look around and the dozers have taken the top of the hill away.

I still don't see the reason for building a motel right on a primary spectating area of the track would be.
Sure, it is an interesting view, but only good for 3 days, and would be better off being used as grandstands or something. |

Not alot of great vantage points for the average punter down the bottom of the mountain with this eventuality.

Something tells me he wont be on his own.
Is it just a fence with nothing inside? or has construction begun? Surely they could have waited |

The inside of the chase has previously been available for spectating (a little further up the hill than the corporate tents), Im guessing it will be a bit more popular this year.
POOR POOR timing though I must agree |

Mate, i think it is pretty official when there is a 8ft fence around the place and an excavator and two bulldozers taking all the soil away at the moment!

Secondly I only ask if its your opinion formed from what you can see or whether youve got it in writng/heard from the project manager (as your on the site) as for 22 out of the last 27 yrs thats where we park our butts for the week and if thats the case we may have to make some changes !! |

But I think the plan is, when the hotel is finished, that there will still be plenty of room between the track and the hotel for normal punters.

Being a Bathurst regular and noting what "force" some spectators can apply to any area of the track, i'm assuming that fence will not be very erect by weekend's end... If they want to get thru and watch... no doubt some will try!

Normally at Bathurst we can't go past the dipper as its blocked off and manned by security. However at the 24hr 2003 it was open all the way down and past forest Elbow (turn 16). This was the first time I had a chance to spectate from here and it was great. It would be great if officals opened it up to general access.
Also, does anyone know of any additional landscaping elsewhere on the track which may have change viewing for this year. |

Are they actively building during race week? I can't see continuous swarms of drunken petrolheads being overly good for site safety!
Sure it would cost money, but if they shut the site down for that week, the fences should be able to be pulled back a bit to allow spectating. Is there much of a buffer zone between the fence and the hole they're digging? |

I will get some pics when i go back up there on wednesday, and try and find out exactly what is happening.
FAST5.0LT, They have extended nearly all the spectator mounds around the circuit. There is almost continuos hill all the way across the top of the montain now. They have also increased the mounds at murry's and hell corners. |
