Can Richard West achive the amount of manufacturers we had in 1994 and 1995. Remember the 10 manufacturers in 1994. Let's hope more manufacturers enter as it will do the sport some good.Do you think he will achieve this?

No - but through no fault of his own. The motor industry has changed radically in the past ten years. Nissan and Renault have merged, Ford now also own Jaguar, Mazda and Volvo and VW/Audi now own brands such as Skoda and Seat who might have been likely to enter motorsport. Rover has pretty much collapsed and BMW suffered huge losses as a reult.
On top of that, manufacturers are also suffering from falling profits and will struggle to justify a motorsport campaign at the same time they're being forced to close factories. |

I really do believe we will have more than ten marques on the grid, but most of them will be run by independents.
Here are some I think will have a car in the BTCC in a few years time, not neccesarily a works car: Vauxhall Peugeot MG Rover Ford Honda Nissan BMW Toyota Alfa Romeo Renault Hyundai Subaru |

They have spent 3 years developing the car in Japan via a IS200 one make series?? The Netz Cup? With 10-20 cars, you can get a lot of feedback? Unfortunately, the car never raced against any other makes so I guess it's hard to get competitor information or an accuate analysis?? |

Why the obsession with "works" teams?? Think back to the RS500 days, with all the top teams running the same type of car. Ok you might not have the variety, but it still gave good close racing, with lots of independents taking part.

for one thing, you don't want to see the same car over and over again during a race. We need a whole load of different cars, shapes and sizes aswell as brand names like Peugeot and Vauxhall. If you had teams with semi-works instead of full-works then the racing is going to be closer.

Surely you want to see good, fast, close racing, not just a processsion of cars. If that's what you want go & sit next to the M1

If you look at the DTM, Opel and Mercedes have won half of the races each. There are 3 types of cars in the DTM, and still you get close racing. You need a varity of cars to keep the fans interested.

to GURRY P's point of view, there were only ford rs500 and I don't know about the bmws, but if you have bigger manufacturer support, the grid is going to be bigger. Just as long as the indies can buy straight from the manufacturer just like this year. This may guarantee great racing or it could be the opposite with one or two manufacturers dominating. The DTM is a new championship which has only started last year, you can't gurantee more manufacturers will enter in the first year because they want to see what it turns out like. This is what is happening in the BTCC, the manufacturers are unsure if the BTCC will survive, but maybe next year, we will see 2 or 3 more manufacturers.
