Marshalling Drivers
Hi,
On a couple of occasions this year at sign on, when I mentioned I was a driver, it has been suggested I also register on the Mashal's Register. I already have a race license which has always seemed to enable me to Marshall as well as race and compete in Hillclimbs, sprints etc. Can anyone advise if there is any reason/advantage in doing this (I never asked at the time because at sign on I am usally half asleep!). One big benefit, by marshalling one day on circuit you can get a sig on your license. It's also a real eye opener for drivers who then better appreciate the way we handle incidents

If you intend to carry on marshalling as well as driving it would be a good idea to have a marshals card as you could then become graded as a marshal. If you are happy with the situation at present and only marshal very occassionally carry on as you are.

And of course many of the clubs will stamp your card to give you membership discount at the end of the year, so it makes financial sense as well

Sorry to be a thick driver but....I only marshalled on 6 or 7 occasions a year, so is there an advantage in being graded? and will it help the orgainisers if I am?

It will help you more than the organisers. Once you have a grade you can even apply to marshal the GP...wow! (assuming you have done 15 days that is)

PP, it's also to help those you marshal with. Whilst the grades don't "guarantee" anything, it does mean that you are distinguishable from a driver who's doing his/her one bank day a year to get a sig!

I've seen PP marshalling at Lawn Mower events, and I think he is defintely safer either behind the wheel or behind the Arnco!
This makes interesting reading as, although I'm intending to race much more next year, I'd also like to take in a few more Marshalling days too. The signature is a bonus, but not nearly as useful as the experience. Last edited by stuart05; 15 Oct 2004 at 11:50. |

Well, drivers - if you want to get involved 'on the bank' a bit more, why not go along to some of the training days at the start of next year? If I recall correctly, the trainee training session through BMMC is brilliant, and it's also worth getting some fire training under your belts too, just in case!

I've just worked out that if I continue with my new and somewhat spasmodic marshalling career I will be eligible to marshal at the grand prix in 2376...I wonder if Bernie will still be in charge?
