Anyone hear anything more about this (six race?) series that should be new for next year?

Did I hear one race on each of Silverstone:

National
International
Southern
GP
Stowe
Historic GP

Sounds mega!

I'm in! I hear Southern has got MSA aproval so no reason for it not to happen! also the prize of a new Golden topped helmet is cool! shouldnt have much trouble getting a series sponsor as well (specially after the success of the WHT) so a bit of prize money would be good!

Seems Golden Helmet meeting on National Circuit on March 19th.

Jim Walsh Trophy (knockout?) on GP circuit April 24th.

Do I detect a definite interest in FF1600 from the BRDC? Could they replace the shambolic BRSCC in the South? Good to have JEB on board as a true champion of the cause....

As I have outlined elsewhere on this site the BRDC will run FF1600 at our four Silverstone-based race meetings in 2005.
I will not run too many events though, as I don't want to crowd an already busy schedule for 1600 racers.

I want to be able to look after competitors, and provide what they want - good value for money racing.

James, after the wonderful WHT event I will have no hesitatons in entering further FF1600 events organised by the BRDC. Being quite new to this scene, could you offer myself and fellow FF1600 drivers an alternative series to the BRSCC?

Hi Alan, welcome aboard Ten Tenths.

Personally I would be very much against a rival series to those organised by the BRSCC - this would just prove extremely divisive and is not what FF1600, which is currently on a boom, needs. The results of any breakaway series would simply be more, emptier grids. I think the BRDC (well, James) have put themselves in a very good position of organising high quality, one-off events that are popular with the drivers and I think this needs to coexist against the backdrop of existing championships. Through competitor involvement (and the influence of ClubFF1600) I'd hope that those existing championships could be enhanced.

As the Editor of such an influential web site i am surprised you are not more positive about creating a series out of JEB'S BRDC races,they will be great value,very well organised and aimed at the competitor..... it would only help the current interest in FF1600... a race on the GP circuit gives 1600 more credibility than a race at Lydden (or Angelsey!) Wake up!, the current "BOOM" is dispite the current championship organisers , not because of them.Look at the failure of the winter series,its just too expensive,...very poor value for money, club drivers have been waiting for something like this.James will, i am sure be given all the support of the 1600 community .It could easily fit in where the KOK has failed.

If it did kill the Midland and Southern BRSCC championships (which i doubt)it would be a hell of a replacement! and why should the BRDC give a sh!t about the Brscc anyway The competition might even wake them up.

I'm absolutely positive about JEB's events, and I'm delighted at the prospect of an annual race on the GP circuit to run alongside the WHT. But I think these events should remain as one-offs, otherwise they cease to be 'special'. I fully support a short series of one-off races which is where we are at right now.

I think the poor entries in the Winter Series are more a reflection of the fact that it is a bit after the Lord Mayor's Show (or the WHT in this case) rather than cost as such, although that is undoubtedly a factor too.

I would, however, be interested if the series of races turned into the National championship that a number of people have been calling for and FF1600 deserves...

They never existed!

BRDC have four meetings with FF1600 on in 2005: Golden Helmet (Mar 19); Jim Walsh (Apr 24); NI (Jul 30); WHT (Nov 4-6). All on National circuit except Jim Walsh, which is on the GP track.

hmm my luck round brands aint great and my car is haunted... yet I will be at Brands

Now vees on the historic GP track would be mega... maximum grid slipstreaming down the hanger straight.

Still good in a 1600 I suppose...

By the way whats a quick lap in a FF1600 round the silverstone national

what engine do vees run? (I mean 1600 or 1300, single or twin port?)

tuned 1300 in the UK, standardish 1600 in the USA and Ireland

so the FF pole is about 2 secs quicker than the vee. I think that mixing vees and FF could work - maybe if the Fords took ballast they could have a challenge race annually

mid 1.05 will see you on pole - engines are about 85 bhp (though everyone is very cagey about the true fugures - I'm sure they are higher)

Pole for Vee at Silverstone in August was Mike Jenvey with a 1m 05.67s lap. Range of times around 10s.

Pole for SOM at Silverstone in May was Gavin Wills with a 1m 03.294s lap (although the bar was raised at the WHT). Range of times around 5s. If Jenvey had been on the same grid he would have been 14th out of 15.

A better match up would be Vee and Classic FF1600 - Classic pole time in September was 1m 06.637s (Paul Walton) - ranges of times around 8s.
