So the TEN programmers reckon that the oft-repeated, 14 year old Arnie movie rates better than Supercars? Well, we Supercar fans know where we stand now. Maybe AVESCO should have considered that when they scheduled the twilight race - or maybe it's that anti-Ford conspiracy again.

Using the super spiffy V8 supercar crowd counting technique that figure of 6.5 million homes should be tripled - there are three different shows on that night after all

Given that they don't show the saturday races live most of the time, the change in heart would be significant because.................................

You Ford guys and your conspiracy theories. If you are that keen to see it live, may I suggest going to the track? After all, loyality knows no bounds. |

Is this not the most worrying comment perhaps ever written about this sport:
"Ten's general manager of sport David White said V8 Supercar racing was not strong enough to command a prime-time television slot. " |

Aarrgh8 you mention "conspiracy" first. Just seems a tag the blue side throws up regularly.
Anyway I will be there . . . and I can also watch it on the TV when I get home, which is a little further away than Box Hill. |

TC must have enough dividends out of AVESCO and SEL to buy his own TV Station!!

I'll have to implement those smilies a bit more often.
I will be there for a few hours on Friday, and all day on Sunday. Yep, Box Hill to EC isn't far. Not as far as Knoxville Iowa or Kyalami South Africa. |

Yeah - I'm going to the race. After all, I have a season pass and I live ten minutes away.
But the use of the word 'conpiracy' has me reaching for a tinfoil hat. Bruce Moxon |

When 3 men and their dog rock up and TC crowns it the greatest thing since sliced bread again, the AVESCOites will feel vindicated.
Just dont ask if it makes any money... |

Haha, now you V8 boys can get a taste of what it's been to be a 500/MotoGP fan for the past 20 years.
Well, no it'd need to be listed in the TV guide as starting at midnight, but actually start at 2AM(thanks to Big Brother) for the full experience. |

Dingo - That's a sad assumption on your part. If V8's are so good then there must be networks jumping over themselves to broadcast the V8's!

Because people who visit a motorsport based forum think the V8's should be shown in prime time doesn't mean that the rest of the viewing public would agree. Unfortunately viewers pay the bills and if Arnie rates better than V8's (which i think it would) you loose out.
This will always be the case here in Australia until Cable either picks up its game (unlikely) or we get many more public channels which won't happen as we don't really have the population to support five or six more. Cheers, Dave. |

This just in....
Hot off the press.
V8 SUPERCARS GO PRIME TIME Thursday, November 18, 2004 Network Ten will broadcast race one of the 2004 V8 Supercar Series at Eastern Creek from 6.00pm - 7.30pm on Saturday, December 4. 2004 has been a year of firsts for the championship with this being the first time in history that V8 Supercars will be shown prime time and follows on from Network Ten's historic Friday broadcast at this year's Bathurst 1000. It is likely that reigning V8 Supercar Series Champion Marcos Ambrose (Pirtek Racing) will wrap up the 2004 championship in race one. Network Ten's general manager, sport, David White said: “we have received strong support for prime time coverage of the race and in the spirit of further growing the sport we will be broadcasting from Eastern Creek immediately following Sports Tonight at 6pm”. Broadcast details for round 13 of the V8 Supercar Series at Eastern Creek are: Saturday, December 4: · 4.00pm - 5.00pm: Top Ten Shootout · 6.00pm - 7.30pm: Race 1 Sunday, December 5: · 1.00pm - 5.00pm. Race 2 & 3 |

V8s take back seat to cooking show
November 18, 2004 V8 SUPERCAR fans will miss out on live television coverage of what looms as the year's championship-deciding race in favour of an American sitcom, a cooking program and an Arnold Schwarzenegger movie. The Ten Network won't televise the 6.30pm Saturday twilight race at Eastern Creek next month, in which Ford's Marcos Ambrose is almost certain to wrap up back-to-back V8 titles, until at least 11pm that night. Instead, Ten says it will show comedy Ed at 6.30pm, TV chef Jamie Oliver at 7.30pm and the oft-repeated Schwarzenegger film Kindergarten Cop at 8.30pm on December 4. Ten's general manager of sport David White said V8 Supercar racing was not strong enough to command a prime-time TV slot. He said V8 bosses had always been told if they proceeded with plans to hold a twilight race as part of the Eastern Creek program, Ten would not show the race live. The Daily Telegraph |

Sorry Retro, Stoned Pony has trumped you on this one, his info is hot off the press.
This is a historic shift in thinking from Ch.10 - never before that I'm aware of has a network deemed motorsport to be worthy of prime time viewing. A great result which all you Ford fans should rejoice - it give Ambrose a great chance to wrap up his title on prime time TV! |

I was thinking of going Saturday (I was already going for a few hours on Friday, and on Sunday), but Saturday night at home sounds better now. I wonder how many Sydneysiders on here will stay home now. Still, pretty amazing. David White seemed adamant that Jamie Oliver and whatever were better raters.
