BAR lengthens relationship with young drivers
Alledgedly Mr Carrol, Mr Rossiter and Mr Van DM may be set to be named as testdrivers now for BAR. Mr Carrol was supposed to have been the most wanted, because of his shear agression coupled with raw natural talent for car feel and circuit grip levels. All off the grape vine though!!

Could be a masissive break for the them if its true. It's about time the big teams started giving youngsters a proper chance.

Hope this is true as all three of them more than deserve this opportunity.
I think the teams experience with Takuma Sato and his all-out style will have helped Adam's cause as he's a very similar driver. Out of all three this will mean more to Adam's career than the other two as his career probably would have ended here and now without this which would have been tragic. I wonder what will happen, will they just keep the drivers as testers, will they help them budget wise to race or is it just one of those general links just incase one of these geezers makes the big league they have first refusal? Thats the first time ive ever seen Carroll likened to Sato.
With Bernoldi and Davidson on the testing books, why would you add 3 more? |

Its a good point Russfeld and I don't quite follow it either especially when you consider that its highly doubtful that BAR will need to train up any young drivers for a race seat as next year they're sorted and beyond that if JB goes AD will fill his shoes and I can't see Sato going far with Honda in the position they're in there now.
Whatever, being signed up to an F1 team has got to be good for the drivers career and they all know what they're doing so good luck to them. Well I don't know what the general concensus of the forum is but AC's driving style is very balls out, aggressive, pedal to metal stuff..very much in the mould of Sato in my opinion. |

when i first started watching adam in fords i remember saying, with respect to his legend and without comparing the 2 further, especially considering carroll is still a rookie in terms of worldwide appeal, that he was very similar to gilles villeneuve, and that was why i took a liking to him. i like adams style, even if it means the odd trip into the gravel. and i think carroll is the most sato-like of f3 drivers since the man himself.

Where at? Will they get a substantial amount of time in the seat?

dont know because i havent got full access to autosports site although its probably jerez again. as for seat time, considering carroll did half the amount of laps rossiter did got at the last test, it may be equal this time, weather permitting.

All 3 will get around half a day each at the teams first 2005 test in early January.
The winner of the young driver initiative is likely to receive some assistance to his progress up the racing ladder before being drafted in for testing with BAR towards the end of 2005, ahead of possibly a full-time testing role in 2006. Piquet jr wiill also run in the same test having pulled out of the current Jerez test. Tony Kanaan is also due to test for the team in January, as a reward for securing the IRL title for Honda. Give Mansell a try
Hats off to BAR for allowing their young drvier initiative
Scott Mansell deserves a run in a BAR as part of there young driver initiative. The lad shone in the Young Driver of the Year Awards especially in the more powerful machinery (see Marcus Pye colunm in Autosport this week) and at the tender age of nineteen, has already learned the knack of using cars with High Downforce, High Speed and Carbon Fibre brakes. His test with Arden International last week in Estoril impressed Christian Horner and he put in very competitive lap times against the two drivers he went up against, the very first time in the car. I honestly believe if he went head to head with the others in the BAR young driver initiative he would truly amaze many people. |

Scott was up against Neel Yani on Wednesday in damp/pouring conditions and Clivio Piccione on Friday morning when the track was wet but drying, with the last session being on slicks. When they were on track at the same time Scott put in very competitive lap times having never driven the car before.
