What the heck will NASCAR do next?
NASCAR is going to be changing another tradition next season. This time its the Gatorade Twin 125's. Now they will officially be the Gatorade Duel and be 150 miles compared to the previous 125. I included a link below. Now for the rant portion of this post. Okay the chase actually turned out pretty well (at least if you aren't Jaime McMurray) and kept me fairly entertained. Then NASCAR decides to drop the Southern 500, the original superspeedway race in NASCAR. And they also ditched Rockingham, another fairly historic track. They decide to change qualifying so the top 35 are guaranteed a spot. If you make speed or use ALL the provisionals (there are a lot of them) you shouldn't be racing anyway top 35 or not. And now they change the qualifying races for the Daytona 500, which have remained the same since the 60's. Where will Brian France end these changes? Will we see Jeff Gordon and Kurt Busch racing in Kias and Daewoos in 2006? On the last lap will everyone bail out of their cars and have a foot race (this would be kinda funny if Jimmy Spencer was in it)? All of the changes so far have been changes for the sake of change and haven't fixed anything. What's next?
J.D. P.S. Sorry for the length and number of posts the last few days. I'm really bored because my finals are done and I'm not going to have a good internet connection for a while since I'm going to be living at home working in an internship. |

You know that proverbial answer will about money somehow.
Maybe the sponsor wanted more exposure. Maybe having fans in the stands for a longer time gives Nascar more revenue. Even more traditional races may be at risk when(not if) they have a race in Canada and Mexico. $$$$ |

The Gatorade change isn't a huge deal, but the automatic startng spots are a mistake, for the reasons you mention.

yeah Chubby cheeks france has a real way of just changing anything-what works?
if it isn't broke don't fix it... Some change is good, but why double date any tracks? if they were to keep one date per track, they could keep the southern 500, and rockingham and throw out non points races, it should do well... stoopid stooopid stoooooopid (i know its stupid) |

One gets the feeling that Brian is just trying to put his "Stamp" on Nascar. The new guy in charge feels a need to make it "his" racing series.

I'm not in favor of the name change to "Gatorade Duel" either, but really what's in a name change these days, stadiums, racing tracks and many other venues are being renamed to reward the sponsors,no biggie IMHO,U can still call it the Twin 125's if it makes U happy afterall.
I agree on letting the Southern 500 event, held on Labor Day weekend at Darlington,go that was stupid,as was taking "The Rock" track at North Carolina off the Cup curcuit. I disagree on the new driver points Championship format,I didn't like it to begin with, decided to give it a chance, but I still hate it,worse than I did at the start of the season. I do give kudos to NASCAR for awarding 5 more points to each race winner, very positive move there, and also for doing away with 2 provisional spots,I do feel that the current 5 total provisional spots should be kept however so that if a big-name driver or 2 have trouble They will still be able to make the race, based on past performances, recall that these provisionals aren't given to the teams, but are earned on the teams past performance and as such are somewhat of a reward therefore. |

I'll bet a plugged nickel that Brian will come up with something in the off-season. He enjoys keeping his name in the news.

The extra 50 laps will be great. I'm just sick of everything needing to be changed after 30 or 40 years.

It seems butthead brian wants to change everything.
Change just for the sake of change is wrong IMO. I could tell you how I really feel about butthead brian but I don't want to be banned. |

Actually many years ago the twins were 100 mile races. Then a driver learned how to go the whole race on a tank of gas and ole Bill changed the length to 125 miles as a result.....but he did have a good reason to change unlike what Brian is doing nowadays.
