The Count?
Who's he? Why do we call him/her that? Also, who's Dullard, again why do we call him/her Dullard?

The Count is Jim Rosenthal, presenter of ITV's F1 coverage. I presume he's so-called because of his bad teeth. Similarly, Dullard is James Allen, the commentator for ITV, and we call him that because we don't find him very interesting.
Oh, and just in case, TGF=That German Fellow=Michael Schumacher. Loads of new memebrs ask about that one. |

What do you think about Allen's GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! At the top of his voice at the start of each race? A nuicance, awful, unnecessary? Last edited by pD F1; 26 Feb 2005 at 22:30. |

it was noted on a tv program a while ago(can't remember which), that jim rosenthal bears a resemblance to the sesame street character "the count", i think that's where the name comes from anyway.

TCFC = referring to Jacques Villeneuve apparantly, but as of yet I'm still trying to figure out what it actually means though!!

Many years ago in the UK we had a program called Spitting Image.
Basically latex foam caracature puppets of the people of the day. It was very powerful in its day, and I still think of Ken Clark (British Polititian) as a slug, sliming his was around the corridors of power! Jim Rosenthal at the time was a sports presenter and was satarised by this program as a Vampire - It appears to have stuck. IIRC Jim now owns 'his' puppet as he liked it so much A lot of the puppets were sold to the victims |

I never knew Spitting Image had done him. I had assumed he was called The Count by use because of the striking resemblance to The Count from Sesame Street. He kinda looks like the eagel too.
James Allen's GOOOOOO!!. Oh, that is just the start.............. The man is just the *#&@^# (@( @ @! )( !*@&*#^&# @(*&@&(! ! ##^&@ !!!! *breathes deeply int oa paper bag* |

Yes indeed Adam, but what I mean is I never realised that him being called such things came from Spitting Image first coming up with the notion.

It probably wasn't a novel thought at the time, but Spitting Image spread the notion!
'Interesting' Steve Davis also has his puppet now. |

It was probably someone he kicked about with in playschool who first came up with it.......... I wonder if that person then went on to be involved in Spitting Image........................

I thought Ant and Dec first satirised Rosenthal with the image of "The Count". It was when they used to present Saturday morning TV.
But there again I could be wrong. |

Wasn't there some driver(repeat backmarker more like) in the 80's who was a Count?
Vaguely remember something about him basically buying his way into a F1 slot, and being miles off the pace, which would probably mean worse than minardi test drivers. There was some kind of a hullabaloo at a European round where he was desparately trying to put his burning car out on the side of the track. |

it think it may have been frank skinner and david baddiel who i first heard call jim rosenthal the count. it may have been from him presenting football instead of f1 as well.

Only F1 backmarker count I can think of is Count Carel de Beaufort, but he was in the 50s. Not thinking of John Colom Crichton-Stuart, Earl of Dumfries, by any chance? |
