I think we did a similar thread a couple of months back.
It might be a good idea to let your new threads "breathe" a bit, rather than going trigger happy and starting so many in one go - but good to see enthusiasm on the forum |

Fangio was racing at a time when his rivals were playboys with money and / or gentleman racers. He also switched between the best cars to win his titles. That's why he's not in my list.

You just highlighted the reason why the 'best' (or worst, mind you) drivers of all times statistics (shall we say polls instead?) are irrelevant and pointless. Different eras, different drivers, different cars, different everything.

Of course everything on this thread is opinion based, and everyone is entitled to their opinion, but these types of threads do not produce reasoned debate. |

Two people only so far as Sir Jack Brabham in his top ten. Interesting! The man is a triple world champion and the only person to build his own championship-winning car (with Ron Tauranac).
My top ten (FWIW): 1. Ayrton Senna 2. Alain Prost 3. Niki Lauda 4. Jackie Stewart 5. Jack Brabham 6. Jim Clark 7. Juan Manuel Fangio 8. Michael Schumacher 9. Alberto Ascari 10. Stirling Moss |

I can't judge on that. My reason is just because Michael Schumacher has won an amazing 7 titles who's to say he was any beter that Fangio who won 5 because they were completly different times and also if Senna didn't have that fatal axident in 1994 he may of gone on to win 7.

Ayton Senna
Juha Kankkunan Henri Toivonen Michael Schumacher Walter Rohl Alain Prost Jim Clark Nikki Lauda Jack Brabham Jim Richards Not all of them got around to driving a Formula 1, but sometimes there just aren’t enough hours in the day. Don't Lift's 25 crapest F1 drivers ever!!!! (couldnt cut it down to just 10 )
1 Perry McCarthy 2 Giovanni Amati 3 Ian Ashley 4 Paul Belmondo 5 Moses Salami 6 Henri Rebaque 7 Taki Inoue 8 Giovanni Lavagi 9 Gregor Fiotek 10 Tiff Needell** 11 Gaston Mazzacane 12 Tarso Marques 13 Ian Scheckter 14 Heidiki Noda 15 Davina Galicia 16 Jonathan Palmer 17 Michael Andretti 18 Rupert Keegan 19 Olivier Groillard 20 Ricardo Palletti 21 Jean Marc Gounon 22 Pedro Diniz 23 Satoru Nakajima 24 Phillipe Adams 25 Jan Magnusson * Phil Andrews disqualified from pole because despite the fact that he driven an F1 car, he never actually tried to race it ** Tiff Needell should have been on Pole (if there's any justice in the world) but unfortunately had qualifying problems Did Not Qualify: Peter Gethin - because he won one F1 race, Nigel Mansell - because despite the fact he was a whinging brummie, he was World Champion. |
