107% rule
Is the 107% rule for qualifying still in force?
if so i believe Albers and Friesacher are outside that rule... Last edited by roys1; 20 Mar 2005 at 04:08. |

The 107% rule has not been enforced since Formula 1 went to the single-lap fuel determined qualifying system.

 If it'd stayed then a few of the top guns would have failed to qualify as well

Alonso - 3:07.672 Friesacher - 3:21.186 (107.2%) Albers - 3:23.001 (108.1%) If there was a 107% qualifying rule still in force the Minardis would be in trouble... |

Which is why Minardi got it taken out!
 To enforce it with single laps wouldn't have worked...if you just go wide on your fast lap and fudge your lap up, and you're outside of 107%...you're not allowed to race? (If they brought in some ruling that says the FIA need to judge the spin, than the Minardi's would start to 'pretend' to spin). It's also not fair to apply it incase a car that might otherwise qualify say at 106% (.e.g Jordan), wouldn't be able to select to run a heavy fuel load strategy because they're effectively penalising themselves and risking non-qualification. |
