I hope Roberto can impress enough to land a ride, no matter how bad he was last year, maybe he's just a lion waiting to be awoken. Or not who knows but in the interviews that i have seen he knows that its do or die for him. Maybe this constant threat of being fired and lack of sponsor support will get him going.

<bias> Ranger is doing very well. </bias>
Glock is doing the best though. I'm not sure any of us expected the Rocketsports car to be leading the charts. |

These times really don't mean that much. Its definitely not indicative of the true pace of the drivers. The more advanced teams (AKA Newman Haas) generally are out there just to develop the car and setups. Bourdais will be trying different things with different setups and just getting a feel for different changes. Remember that Bourdais has nothing to prove in pre-season testing, meanwhile Glock is out to impress and throw down some lap times to gain interest from maybe Forsythe or other team(s). This isn't to say I'm not impressed with Glock being at the top of the charts, I'm just saying that it doesn't mean that Glock and Rocketsports are on pace and will be leading the field into Long Beach.

While jjspierx is right in what he's saying, my observations have been that in CC tests seem to mean more than in say F1, where they mean pretty much nothing. Regardless of what they're doing, we'd never see Bourdais at the bottom, abnormal circumstances exempted. In other words, I think it has some meaning, but it's not going to tell us nearly as much as we'd like. I think Glock being consistantly at the top indicates that he'll be doing better this year than we've come to expect from a Rocketsports driver. Does anyone remember who was topping the charts @ Sebring in 2003? Bourdais.
Omega99 pointed out in the silly season thread that Tag's times are very impressive due to the team's inexperience with the chasis. That's pretty darn cool! I wonder if this adds credence to the idea that Rahal gave Walker substantial help/info? If Jensen is doing the whole season, where is he? |

In Jensen's releases I believe it said he would be testing the week or so before Long Beach.

I am impressed with the Walker team and Tag. It shows they have things going in the right direction.

The other driver who has impressed me with his times, is Nelson Phillipe. He seems to have gone Ok in all the tests so far.
I'm still waiting for Marshall to get up to speed though. Last edited by StickShift; 25 Mar 2005 at 13:36. |

Phillipe has done ok although I suspect Ranger will be ahead all year both on pace and race craft. It does seem that NP has improved over the course of the last year though.

Nelson was 0.68 off the top pace on a 51 second lap.
Best laps of last 4 races of 2004: Laguna: 1:11.727 vs 1:14.005. Difference: 2.278 Vegas: 26.166 vs. 26.290. Difference: 0.124 Surfers: 1:34.017 vs. 1:36.185. Difference: 2.168 Mexico: 1:28.794 vs. 1:30.208. Difference: 1.414 Perportionately to length of the lap times he was about the same amount off the pace in Mexico and about ~3/10ths slower at Surfers. Given the obvious setup disadvantages, he's not nearly the POS that people like to rant about. He's not going to be nabbing legit podiums or anything this year, but given most people's opinions of him, I think he'll surprise a few. Given his lack of experience, this is more of a true rookie season. I don't expect him to be at Ranger's level, but he could be reasonably close. Last edited by Snrub; 25 Mar 2005 at 16:19. |
