As great a comeback as MS's drive was I would still have to give the Driver award to Alonso. He made no mistakes and was clear headed and cool under what can only be regarded as extreme pressure.
As brilliant a driver as MS is, if it weren't for the absolutely phenomonal pace of his Ferrari and the Bridgestones his comeback wouldn't have been possible. Car of the race - Ferrari by a landslide! Driver of the race - Alonso by a whisker! |

Schumacher. Alonso also didn't put a wheel wrong, but 13th to almost a win was incredible.

I voted for Jacques just for the fact that he didn't put a wheel wrong today - eg. his critics can't criticise him for anything he did today!

I'm with Inigo here. Alonso drove well, but winning from second on the grid - massive pressure notwithstanding - can't quite match going from thirteenth to second, including a beautifully opportunistic pass on Button.

Liuzzi for me. GP debut, yet outraced DC throughout, never looked out of place in a difficult weekend for RBR. Was matching Alonso's pace at the end. Gets double marks for it being the first time he has raced a car where the skills in operating are entirely different. Alonso was where he was expected to be, Liuzzi (in comparison to his team-mate) was not.

Alonso. His first time under real pressure for the win and he handled it like a pro.

You would have thought MS would get it, but the way Alonso held him off was pure driving. Im not sure if MS was in the same position he would have done this well, I reckon he would have been a bit silly and crashed off taking alonso with him. Remeber, MS does not like overtaking on the track, but prefers pits, even by his own admission.
I reckon KR would have won had it not been for a stupid drive shaft failure as he pulled away very well in the early stages and would have laughed in his mirrors at MS. Good race though, and makes F1 worth watching. Last edited by ActiveMS; 24 Apr 2005 at 21:41. |

Hi all.
I'd just like to add that if the poll was for the worst drive in the race, Mark Webber would have to go close. As much as I would dearly love an Aussie World Champ, I regret that he will not be the one. He is a trier, and has speed, but I believe it comes through hard work, not Natural Ability. When you look at the F1 field today , there are a lot of naturally gifted drivers racing, and Mark is being left behind....... . |

I'm not sure. It would be on of the following:
MS - Terrific pace and he was genuine pushing the heck out of the car for a lot of laps which was great to see. 13th to second in a situation where passing is extrodinarly difficult. Awsome pass on Button (despite monsterous pace advantage), I actually cheered for MS, I don't know if I've ever done that before! JV - Great start, pass on Rubins, pressured Webber into a mistake, pass in the pits on Trulli, good pace. Sato - Seemed fast, nice pass. Alonso DID make some mistakes with MS behind him. Kimi smoked him until he dropped out, MS looked better than him later on and not just because his car was faster. He had a good performance, but we saw better. Was about to vote for MS even though I have a great dislike for him, but think that JV might have a slight edge from the standpoint that he could have just as easliy not raced with any passion and gave into the countless articles/rumors about him and Sauber. Deep down everyone expected a good showing from MS, and thats what he gave, but nobody expected JV to do anything except put in another mediocre performance like his first three. But thats just my $0.02.
