Obviously Tarso Marques has waked up and found himself in over his head. Surely there are other pilots available that could use this experience to good effect and incidentally give Minardi a boost up the grid. Who would you give this drive to if you were Stoddart?

Why don't I see Pantano...I'd love him in Formula 1. Ok...he's Briatore's driver...but he could arrange something for sure!

Incompleat list

I had mentioned on a couple of other threads that Minardi's fortunes have suddenly taken a turn for the better with Alonso, and that Paul Stodddart is aiming for a factory engine for next year. I do think that several experienced drivers, (like Eddie , hey where are my smilies?) will be beating a path to Paul's door during the season. Liz, you have also left out Mark Webber, Martin Brundle, Mark Blundell, Jackie Stewart, Damon Hill, Nigel, Fisi, the Bunsen, and .............

I'm not willing to 'bash' Tarso Marques after just one race, I'd like to see a few more before I write him off.

That said, should he not improve, Mark Webber (attached to the Renault Motor) should take up residence at Minardi.

Great for Webber, Aussie boss & F1 racing experience.

Great for Minardi, all they need is a factory engine and they are cook'n.

Great for Renault, twice as much testing & developement for engine, decreasing the time it will take them to get to the top again.

I fear this is just fantasy though, it would be humiliating for Benetton to be outpaced by the Minardi's excellent chassis and two rookies with fantastic talent.

From my point of view, any driver with a suprlicence can do it better than Marques. And believe, there are a lot of good and young drivers available, if Minardi wants to get rid of Tarso, they won't find any difficulties in acquiring a new member.

I'm with Wrex in that I reckon we should give Tarso a chance. He probably was in a bit of a panic after the engine blew in Melbourne and he was worried about qualifying at all. He also probably had the spare-spare engine. People rave about Gene and obviously he has the talent to be hired as a good test driver but he didn't do much in the Minardi either. It doesn't mean he's bad.

I believe most of you dont have the correct information about tarso at Albert park.

Paul Stoddart has gone on record by saying that Tarso's chassis is a complete dud..it apparently has something wrong with it that they will not be able to fix..something to do with the rushed build process..the fact that with just minutes to go in qualifying he jumped into Alonso's car with no time for any adjustments..not even his seat fitted correctly he went 1 second quicker than in his own chassis in just one run proves that there is possibly something wrong with the number 2 car.

unfortunately they wont be able to recitfy the problem until about rnd 3..so tarso may just have to grin and bear it until a new and improved chassis can be built.

I say wait and see before writing him off.

i voted for Alex Barron, I think he's great.

I also agree with marcus. Don't write Tarso off just yet, remember he was great in 1996, qualifying 14th in that years awful Minardi. Give him a few races and let him prove his worth

Can I vote for Badoer then please. I'd love him to get an F1 seat, but preferably a better one.
I'm praying for Schuey or Rubens to get injured cos then he should get a Ferrari seat. Though that was the idea in '99 too.

Welcome to our Forum Badoer Fan. I hope you don't mean what you said, I should hate to think anyone would wish an injury upon another driver, no matter how much we might not like them or wish to promote our own heroes.

As a rule, that sort of sentiment doesn't go over well here.
But we're happy to have you aboard. I too, voted for Barron, abut think Luca deserves the seat.

Marcus, you said it. I agree with everything you said. Everyone must remember the rush Minardi was in even to get to Melbourne in the first place. Please don't slaughter Tarso until things have had a chance to improve at Minardi, and they get those troubles sorted out.

But, um, Tarso wasn't any good in Champ Cars either, was he?

Thanks for the info, Macus, I didn't know any of it. But I'd like to see Mark Webber in that car except he might think it was not the best career move for him at present.

As far as Luca Badour, isn't it "Been there done that" for him?

I say we stick DC in the minardi and really give him something to moan about! And it might stop the british press from continually gushing over how great he is!

It's Just So Obvious!

I truely believe that the second seat should go to (envelope please) Allan Moffat!

After all on the race weekend in Melbourne 'The Great Man' beat Marc Gene (I know a lot of people have but he was in a Williams BMW), Larry Perkins (I know a lot have done this as well but he was in a Holden Commodore V8 Supercar), and he did all this over one lap in a stock BMW 318i.

This is the real meaning of talent.

How about Niki Lauda? He's saying the cars are so easy to drive now that even he could do it. Let's give him the chance to prove it.

I also agree that Tarso should be given a chance, with equal machinery to Fernando. He will still not be as quick, but at least we will have a better assessment of his abilities. Although Liz is right, his efforts in champ cars are not noteworthy. I suspect the next driver should bring some sponsorship money with him, and there is no shortage of them, either. If the Minardi had a works engine, there would be a lot of test drivers wishing they had taken the opportunity. Like I told Paul before, give Toyota a call!!
If Tarso can't cut it, what about Pizzonia? Or Herbert?

Newsflash!!

It's done! I read a press release today which said that Minardi have a spare chassis for Sepang.

Perhaps they'll relegate the 'number two' car to the spare and give Marques the new one.

Let's hope that wasn't rushed...
