Spa - F1 2006
I've decided I want to go and watch an F1 race live, and picked this one to go and see. I'll be travelling from the UK and really I'm after advice on the best way to go about things.
I.e. is it easier/cheaper to book the whole weekend (inc. transport) with one company, if so, any suggestions? Or would it be cheaper to drive over there and book into a B&B or something and do it all seperately? I know I'm a little eager/early but I don't really know where to start. Typing "F1 holidays" into google just gives the Crystal site, and their 2005 prices seemed quite steep.... So, can anyone recommened a good reliable company to use, or the best way of going about the whole thing really. Thanks |

Try Page & Moy. http://www.page-moy.com/
They will probably do some sort of package, we used them for Le Mans last year. However, it's not THAT far to Spa, say 4 hours from Calais, it might be worth looking at hotels etc. in the area, or camping if that's your thing, and it might work out cheaper. I've driven to Spa twice (not for F1 though), and right past it to get to the Nurburgring, and it's not too bad a drive. |

You can definitely do it cheaper than the package deals. I paid £500 to take my Dad to Le Mans, self drive, camping at Maison Blanche. Tickets and camping only made up about £120 of that (54 euros each ticket, 80 euros camping). That would leave £380 to cover ferry costs

380 quid for a ferry?! What crossing did you take?
Me and my friends are planning next years Le Mans, we're reckoning 150 quid per person at most, for ferry, camping and race tickets. As for Spa, you could get SpeedFerries from Dover to Calais, that's pretty cheap. Then there's your accomadation, as I said you can probably camp, not sure how much a hotel would be. I think for the GP there are specified parking zones, and you can get a bus in or something. |

Whilst I'm quite sure the race will be rescued don't forget the promoter went bust today...

They said yesterday that the Walloon government is "probably" going to "try" to save the race.
Why not try Eurotunnel for a crossing? I use it all the time and it is (if you book via the net) not that expensive and a lot faster. |

Done it before using a speedy ferry thing (name anyone?!) to Belgium, then travel by car to Germany, stayed in a little home thingy in Waxweiler. About 40 mins or so to Spa so not bad if you're planning on doing all three days, and handy if you want to pop along to the Nuerburgring too. And not expensive either. Also, if you want to see a little of Germany, Mosel valley etc isn't too far and Cochem etc depending what you like. Good wine tasting

Very good win in the Mosel valley and cheap aswell! I have done it for the past 2 years on the way back from Friday practice from the Nurburgring for F1.

This is correct. If smart, do not buy tickets at the moment.
DDwhatever company IS bankrupt. Spa owned/related clubs do not want to organise the F1, too many losses predicted. It seems the Walloon governement is trying to do something, but no one really knows what to do. Advice: wait! |
