It's been in service stsations throughout NSW and QLD for the last couple of months. It's pretty good stuff from all reports. A big improvement over the original Optimax.

Yeah and I bet we don't get it in SA.
I think the whole time Optimax has been available SA has had one outlet selling it. great. Great for V8's though. |

Porsche,Ferrari and a few other performance cars dont approve it till they do extensive tests.
Most if not all OUTBOARD MOTOR manufactuers dont approve it -they insist on standard ULP not even 98 PULP. |

actually no.
It has to do with the fact that optimax has around 5% benzene in it and that level is illegal in some states, WA for example. As of the 1st of jan 2006 a new federal law comes into effect whereby ALL fuel sold must be < 1% benzene. This is why there is a new fuel, not because of any performance based criteria. |

Apparently this new fuel is going to cost another 4cpl over and above regular optimax, making it 14cpl dearer than ULP, I wonder for the price is it really worth it ???

It would have to make the car 15-20% more economical to make it pay....

im thinking that even optimax 98 is a big waste of money, unless you have a high end motor vehicle there are very few vehicles that would get even a minor benifit out of even 95 premium

A few problems with this fuel so far. One V8 team filled up the night before testing and arrived to find the foam in the tank a disintegrated due to the fuel eating it. A developement car had to replace 2 fuel pumps and a couple of regulators after running on the new fuel. Apparently everyone has been told to check all the fuel systems after running the new fuel. It also contains a type of liquid wax which the servo version doesnt have to help lubricate the system as the ethenol evaporate faster. It is leaving a residue on the end of the injector, but doesn't seem to be causing a problem. It is $500 for a 220lt drum, and the drums expand a lot even out of the sun.

Is it just another case of SHELL ripping off the poor motorist again, and more money for Little Johhny and Costello. I think so

Ethanol makes metals rust.. it helps rubber fuel lines to perish.. and in the right concentration, will strip paint off your car. Why are they changing the specification again?? |
