BMW 'pit lane park' or something
http://www.pitpass.com/fes_php/pitpa...s_art_id=27673
Didn't read all of it, but it looks like a mobile F1 themed attraction, going to a few grand prixs this year... Shows a different side to the sport, something which fans really don't see much of, so i think it's a good idea, what do you think? Would you go and have a look? |

If they were to do it at the Australian GP.. I'd go and check it out for sure. Anything to get closer to those cars.

Credit to BMW for thinking of the fans and actually bringing something new to the F1 experience. It's still short of actually opening up the pitlane and having the entire grid do autograph sessions ala every other championship but it's a positive step forward.

Along the same lines as NA$CAR's "Fan Zone" at Daytona and guaranteed to be a money maker. At the Daytona 500 in FEB this year, probably 10,000 people visited it at $80 each, over and above the price of regular admission tickets.

I like getting into pitlanes for the purpose of seeing cars and garages up close, but I really do not care about meeting the drivers.
I am more concerned with the former aspect, and also viewing positions for the event, than having 2-seconds with a driver, who is made to be there no less, to scribble a squiggle on a cap for me. At Silverstone 1997, on the Thursday or Friday, I forget which, I got a wander down the pitlane. Had one of these "pitlane walkabout" ticket things. Was all thoroughly regimented, and all that, but got right in front of the garages, the cars were out, and what not, so that was good. I enjoyed that. In terms of this BMW proposal, it seems that it incurs no extra cost...so, why not? Cannot hurt. |

There is also an article on GrandPrix.com about the park. It sounds very interesting and to be able to touch the cars and feel the weight of some of the components would be marvellous.

It's definitely a step on the right direction. F1 needs to be closer to the people, and get rid of the elitist and exclusive image.

Look mate, have you come here to talk about motorsport or be a spoof, overly stereotypical Yank?
This BMW thing is a good idea, no? |

Why didn't they have those when the race was in M'sia? Their main sponsor is from this country.....

Good PR move as the opportunity for fans to get close to the car are few and far between...but good on them too.
