Thruxton

At Thruxton yesterday, I'm sure I heard mention of "side by side through Green". Has a corner been named after the current World Landspeed Record holder? - about time! But which corner? Seemed to be towards the start of the lap, so the un-named left kink after Allard?? Or has Allard itself been renamed??

The circuit itself seemed very different to what a remember over the last few years - VERY bumpy (my in-car video shows opposite lock through some of the corners 'round the back and the front of the car flexing in relation to the camera in the back!) - has the surface degenerated over the last year or so? (Trucks racing on a very hot day recently perhaps...?). No criticism - it makes one of the most exciting circuits in the UK even more exciting

You're right Graeme, Green is the left hand kink after Allard. Thanks very much for some entertaining races from the Grads yesterday, yours was a humdinger!

Yes, spot on Graeme - this came after a campaign in Motorsport News.

It was the G Smith in the Green Caterham - oh... Perhaps safer to say I was the winner (though that wasn't so clear cut on the track - and yes, I did know the leader had a ten-second penalty - he did say he was rather confused when I waved him through up Woodham Hill on the last lap ). Not a bad race from only a dozen cars (the first 8 within 4-and-bit seconds) - hopefully more out next season

So when did Green appear? I must have missed that, though always muttered about it. BARC need to put it on the circuit map...

Hi Graeme, Just jesting, I knew you'd won but it was beautiful hearing the commentators trying to make the distincion especially when the 2 G's were first and second. I picked up on the left hand kink being called "Green" from the last Startline magazine.

Now I know which corner it is....but was there really just a "spare, un-named" corner there?

I guess so - the track does change direction at that point although not significantly, so I suppose it qualifies as a corner.

Fair enough, before knowing which corner was, couldn't figure exactly which one they'd named.

graeme,
It's funny you should say about Thruxton feeling different to expected on that day, I had the same experience which culminated in the Renault being flung up the road on the last lap on qualifying in a corner which always used to be comfortably flat.
