I have not read it myself, but there is an interesting review of the book by Joe Saward here. As Saward is a proper writer, not just a hack, there are some introductory paragraphs to get through first, but I think it's worth the effort.

It's one that caught my eye in the GPL catalogue, which is on my wishlist too.

Yes it is. I wonder if you need to have been there then to fully appreciate it. I'd be interested in the reaction of those too young to have lived through it. Maybe some brought up on the sport much as it is today might suffer total disbelief at what happened - to Roger in particular?

I'm aware of Roger Williamson's crash, I have read how marshals wouldn't go near the car as they had wax coated jackets I believe. Those are the types of things I find unbelievable being a younger generation F1 fan.
I suppose back in those days it was very different and deaths were viewed as part and parcel of racing. |

I have it ordered anyways. It is bound to be good.
I just finished reading the Piers Courage book, Lauda's autobiography and a book called Rivethead, so time for a new one. Got the Mario Andretti book by Roebuck coming soon too. Anuauto, I have read many times about the deaths of Williamson and Pryce in numerous books and I still cannot believe it actually happened. It really makes you wonder how peoples minds work. Many times I have read an account of Williamson's death and been tearing my hair out at the sheer idiocy and senselessness of it all. And then, there are the pictures....there is one in the "F1 autobiography" that particularly saddens me. |
