Jacko44 should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Why did AUSCAR stop?

Why did AUSCAR stop running in 2001, was it just not popular enough? Would be good if they could bring it back. Is there anything similar to NASCAR at all in Australia?

The mid to late nineties saw a number of the leading teams move to either V8 Supercars, Super Touring or GTP where they could get better factory support (ie from Audi or Porsche) and the television coverage was better.

SBS forgot to show up at Calder to broadcast the final round of the series (although I can't remember the year.) - try explaining that to your sponsors.

As i understand it there were lots of internal disputes amoungst the organisers. i have asked this question before on the aussie touring car bit of the forum but i cant find the thread now. The guys there are very helpful, though if there is anything specific you want to know about it. apparently many of the cars are still about. I find it strange that Nascar doesn't seem to survive out side its country of origin.

It's all down to the marketing - and how many $$$$$$$$$ there is behind that. With the manufacturers behind it, it's got to succeed.

Which is probably why V8 Supercars do so well in Oz.

As Kelvin pointed out too - it's a case of "Stranger in a strange land"

Rob.
