Ignition Coils

Got my Magnecor Leads on the way and even though we raced and won on last Saturday night the engine developed a light misfire toward the end of the race. Sooo, what Coils are everyone using and recommending. I'm just eliminating things one at a time. Current coil is a Bosch and yes it gets warm. Spoke with a chap today who is into drag racing, said his mate put two coils together, epoxied the one where the lead comes out and looped wired the Coils together. Reckons by having two sets of windings they picked up six kw at the wheels. What are your thoughts guys?...trikes

Have you tried closing up the plug gaps a little - will make it easier for the spark to jump if you are a bit marginal on spark energy from the coil.

As regards your coil, try wacking the Bosch part number into Google and see if you can find a spec sheet for it. That will give you a baseline for comparing alternative coils against.

I am using a MSD coils with my cars along with the MSD ignition, seems to pull very clean with no missfires. Oh with that set up you open the plug gap way wide!

I may walk around the q itself in circles a little.
Myself, I set up the injection to run quite lean as soon as I not is on the trottle. That way I am sure the pluggs are (hopfully) clean during acceleration out of the turns. So much for the gasoline issue.

As you ask for coil separatley, I guess you does not run any igniter system.
I suggest using som sort of capacity discharge system that also take care of the coil charging time. Old fascion points does give to long charging time at low rpm, resulting in more coil heating or point burn. Such system mostley have an recomended coil going for them.

In terms of reliability I don't think there is much wrong with Bosch to be honest. Just make sure you have the right spec (They make a wide range) - and if it is designed to use a ballast resistor, then use a ballast resistor or it WILL fail prematurely. You could ask the makers of the electronic ignition what the ignition coil primary winding resistance should be to be on the safe side.
