Dick Johnson Racing Sold to Carlin??
Motorsport eNews have just updated their front cover after the 2nd issue was only out for a few hours. DJR is being sold to Carlin Motorsport in the UK. As they say, with Triple 8 and HRT in foreign hands, what's going on?
If you havent checked it link is http://enews.mnews.com.au |

Holy Moly...
We may as well rename ourselves as the British Australian V8 Supercars? Seems like its getting that way now.... Maybe the pound buys a lot more aussie dollar..... Are there any teams now that a wholly owned by Australians? Only ones that come to mind now are Paul Morris and Brighty. |

Just read it in MN and pommy race team CARLIN MOTORSPORT is to buy 25% and then buy the team outright at the end of the year if the VE$A & TEGA Cashorts let the sale go through.
Another English own v8 team, that makes three now, how many more will fall to the pommy dollar. |

Very sad to hear this, but actually I'm not surprised. Dick has looked pretty weary lately and with all the recent shanagians to secure a good budget, I'd reckon for someone his age, it's probably too much of a pain in the ass to deal with. I think it might be good to sell if you are really not that motivated anymore. I don't want to see it but realistically the day was coming.

And just as his team were looking to be back in a decent position.
Despite only following holdens, i've always watched DJR closely, considering how long they have been around. Was happy to hear of the new sponsership last year also, but i guess it still wasn't enough. |

From a marketing perspective, you've got to think that Dick Johnson Racing has more cache with sponsors than Carlin Motorsport. They'd do worse than to keep Dick in a prominent role for a while

FPR - UK
T8 - UK WP - UK (though no team officially). SBR - NZ PCR - NZ TKR - NZ DJR - UK a fair chunk is in overseas hands...good on them for investing into our motorsport future. |

How long is the Jim Beam sponsorship deal for? Red Bull are a major Carlin Motorsport sponsor overseas, and Jim Beam is now strongly linked to coca-cola, would that cause any upsets?
Arent Tasman a Kiwi Team also? Or is that just a ploy for some more support |

Why are we suprised that the UK are investing in our teams. I read somewhere that Motor sport is one of the growth industries in the UK & is high on the export list.
Still coming to terms with this a little bit tho. Dick was my childhood hero. Wont be the same without DJR at the track |

That was one almighty shock to the system, if it does happen of course it will be sad but a new era will start and we know DJR will be around for a long time, at least in spirit not necassarily in the team name.

It sounds good.
DJR can't be around forever, while they have a strong sponsorship deal may as well move the team on to a very professional motor racing company like Carlin, make a penny, get out of the risk and sure the future of the team up for the employees surely? |

What a sad day if it is true.
Now I know how Holden fans felt in 03 when Skaife bought HRT from Tom Walkinshaw. So long as its still called DJR and the cars are still the no. 17 & 18 Falcons I'll be happy. |

Doesn't suprise me. Dickie has to do was he has to do. Better to sell now than hang on for another 5years or so.

It would be like Prodrive continuing to call their team Glenn Seton Racing when they bought it.... |

Better to burn out than fade away...what better time to sell the team than when things are going well. I'd rather see DJR go out at the top than slowly slide down the grid into obscurity or collapse in a pile of bankruptcy. Dick Johnson has given us many memories and deserves a break

Dick's obviously had enough and who could blame him? However, he sells the team at one of the healthiest periods in it's recent existence. With a strong driver line up, constantly improving on track performances and a long term deal with a high profile major sponsor.
Dick's earned hsi retirement like few others in our sport and good luck to him. I hope he buys a huge boat and he and Jill can relax on it and really enjoy their future years together. As a self confessed one eyed Holden fan, I still take my hat off to Dick Johnson. A 5 times touring car champ and one of only a handfull of men you could honestly call a legend in the sport. You'll be sadly missed in the padock by both the blue and red sides Dick. |
