olly83 should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Best laptop?

I'm getting a new laptop soon. £1000 is the max im willing to spend. I quite like the Dell Inspiron 9400 but im stuck when it comes to knowing whether to get XP or Vista. I want to run games like GTR2, Rfactor and flight simX can anyone offer their thoughts?

Thanks, Olly

I've never worked out the reason to play sims on a laptop, i'd find that a steering wheel etc would be bigger than the actual screen..

But as far as operating systems go, i have vista home basic on the laptop and XP home on the pc.

Vista, i haven't had any real trouble with and it looks quite sexy, apart from Dell putting an incompatible driver on there, because they're clever.

But, XP probably runs games better?

I'm not going to touch Vista until at least the first service pack is released, and after a PC upgrade!

Personally I would say stick to XP for now, especially with using a laptop for gaming.

I have run Vista home premium (free upgrade) on my dell 1501 (AMD Turion64) and have had no problems so far. and games havent been a challenge at all but if any problems come up the run in XP ability works fine (can't get IRC to run in Vista yet) And load time has improved not decreased, can boot from turned off in prob 30-45 sec including connecting the wireless and IM programs. Not sure the conversion rate but it was about $1300 US 3 months ago.

Simple Rule

Duel Core + 1gb of ramm or more then yes

Single Core + under 1gb of ram go XP

Im both impressed and disipointed with vista (theres more for admins but they ahve made things more difficult to get to).

Have a look around at some HP stuff, alot of the stuff is comparable to dell at the moment.
