Sponsors after Tobacco ban?
What are the possible sponsors after Tobbaco is banned?
I reckon Microsoft, Coca-cola, maybe Nintendo or Sony, maybe see other electronics manufacturers like Kenwood taking a larger role? Anyone have any ideas? |

Both McDonald's and Sony have expressed a desire to sponsor teasm with current tobacco deals but are unwilling to share space with same sponsors base dont he bad press surrounding tobacco usage. I am saure there a few more mega-corps which can afford to spend the requisite cash to sponsor a F1 car.

Sony already sponsor quite a few little niches on the cars through Playstation - Coca Cola are gearing up for F1 through the Nordic F3000 team, and McDonalds were trying to buy TGF's cap space before DV got in on it with the longest name you have ever seen
Other sponsors?? They'll be queuing up, no problem! |

We are talking about big sponsors here, not itsy bitsy sponsors with itsy bitsy logos hidden on the cars. Just off hand, I would think that some of the fashion houses that bottle heaps of perfumes at negligeable cost, and then sells them to the public at outrageous prices might make a splash here. Big computer companies like Dell, or Intel, or even Microsoft might find it a good tax dodge, and some of the oil companies might chip in. Of course the car factories will feature their products prominently. We might even find some companies sponsoring a car for one or two races.

Cola en Virgin would sponsor Ferrari they are both red
Nintendo would place some pokemon's on the Williams car if Microsoft sponsers cars they will always have a software problem and crash. And if Sony would sponser a Team they can drive with the PS2 in the car |

Sponsers
It will turn into watching NASCAR with all the different sponsers like Skittles etc.. Williams have done the best thing - got them a non Fag sponser already... I agree - I think Microsoft and people like that should join in....

F1 is unique in that it attracts a nearly worldwide audience, from all walks of life for 17 events a year. The World Cup, olympics (2) and America's Cup are the closest, and they are not as frequent. It is also unique, in that it is very weak in the U.S., which is still the largest market in the world. If it adds China and Russia, this will open up two more enormous markets to the sponsors. Who should this appeal to?? (1) Makers of consumer products, sold worldwide under the same brandnames: Examples: Cigarettes, Booze, Fast Food, Major Consumer Electronic Companies, Personal Care Products, etc. (2) Big Oil: IMHO, only Shell and Mobil have really taken the plunge in F1. ESSO/EXXON have confined themselves to sports cars and other venues. You don't see all that much much of BP and the others. (3) Financial Institutions: With the notable exception of HSBC, they have not come on board, but I think this will change. It will indeed be very interesting to see what the cars look like in a few years. Last edited by Maxmil; 16 Jun 2001 at 11:45. |

Many companies can be interested to sponsorize F1 after tobacco ban. For example, many enterprises of technology business and communications, like Infineon, Chello, Telefonica. Other examples were written here above.
>ESSO/EXXON have confined themselves to sports cars and other venues. Esso is associated with Mobil, now they joined a megacorp called ExxonMobil. Despite that Esso is in fact the official oil of Toyota F1 team which will be run since next year. |

One thing's for sure, what money they do get from alternative sources won't come as easily as it does from the tobacco barons.
Jackie Stewart has made this point in the past. |

I reckon Toyota have already bagged themselves the Coca Cola sponsorship - their test car is red and white.

The tobacco ban is the reason to increase the number of factory teams (that's why Williams hasn't any tobacco sponsor).
the worst news for us may be the sponsorship of the companies like Procter&Gamble or Mars. It will turn F1 into the famaly show to attarxt target audience. |
