Premier 1

Haven't heard much from this unlike series since it was postponed until 2003.
Been having a conversation about it on a Jean Alesi forum and thought it was worth discussing here.

So what are your thoughts on it?

Here's what I wrote on Jean Alesi forum.

I doubt Premier 1 will ever happen.

As for vetran drivers entering.. well HA I scoff at your ridiculas claims

BERGER: He works for BMW we wont see him as a professional driver again. Why would he trade a high profile job like that for a seat in a series no bigger than F3000.

HAKKINEN: If he gave up F1 for family life he aint going near Premier 1

MANSELL. Give me a break. How many times have we heard these ridiculas rumours of Mansell back in the driving seat.

KATAYAMA: For those of you who dont know. Katayama gave up F1 because he felt he had absoloutely no motivation to race in F1. He now enjoys his first love of Mountain Climbing on a full time basis. Why would he find anymore motivation in this hack of a series?

HILL: See Mansell.

If this series does start then expect to see Ex-F3000 drivers and F3000 drivers who felt they're career wasn't going anywhere.

I.E

Bas Leinders, Justin Wilson, Sohei Ayari, Vincent Rademacker and Marc Goosens

I can't see it happening to be honest, although I would actually like it to go ahead. I have become somewhat disillusioned with F1 over the last couple of years and I would like to see closer racing, or indeed racing, happening on a world stage. Anyway, all motorsport is good motorsport - especially if it is regularly televised!!

Reynard going bust won't help their cause.

Lets look at it this way if F1 teams need to lay of people because of a current finacial state of affairs around the world why would football teams put money into motoracing when they can get the top scorer from the world cup with the money instead

The football teams don't put up any money - they put their names to it for promotional purposes so the organisers can get the sponsorhip etc. and will then get a share of the profits.
Will it happen? I dunno, but its a pretty smart idea really.

it will end up as a good series to be in for a driver that wants to earn a income from racing .

For the drivers that are looking to move up to world class racing , i would think they will steer clear

I feel Premier 1 will happen. Reynard going under will not affect them very much, as there are enough other chassis makers to do the cars.

they have to raise 125million first of all!? Cant see that happen. Shame as well there going to be an F1 design, so it be the same type of racing.

I think the racing will be fine as long as they attract some quality drivers .

It is highly unlikely ever to happen, who would buy tv rights and at what value, who will finance the series.

The value of tv rights for ALL sports is rapidly collapsing.
If established racing formula are struggling to find the financial resources needed, why would a new, unproven concept be attractive?

Perhaps the owners of "premier 1" should combine with the "challenge inititive" to have a "action packed day" od car-less racing!

Does the world really need two new formula based on probably unviable financial models?

I have to admit El that I share your views on this matter. Just don't see it happening in any shape or form, not in the current financial climate. You only have to look at how Ascar and Rockingham are struggling.

In Canada, more precisely Montreal, there is no big Football (or soccer as we say) teams, except the Montreal Impact, ever heard of it?

Anyway the big professional teams, be it Hockey (Canadiens), American Football (Alouette) or Baseball (Expos) can't afford star players, and I really really really doubt they ever had the slightest idea of put money on racing.

I don't know how it is economically in Europe but if a "football" team wants to make it big time, they'd better keep their money for star players no?
